P228 vs P229? Login/Join

Ok, I'm still fairly new to the world of Sig Sauer. I've been looking on-line for accessories, mags, holsters and such for my new P228. I'm getting a little confused. Some items are listed as fitting both guns while others only fit one. The two guns look to be identical and many specs are almost the same.
I do get that the 228 was made in Germany and has a folded slide whereas the 229 is made in the U.S. and has a forged slide. Thus the weight difference. Is that the only difference or are there others?
Will accessories for one fit the other?

It ain't the years, its the mileage.

The 229 is slightly (very slightly) wider in the slide than the 228. My holsters all interchange, but the 228 is a looser fit. All of my holsters are actually 229 holsters, so I can see where it might be possible that a tightly molded 228 holster could be problematic until it stretched out a bit.

Newer 9mm 229s have a wider mag well and use different magazines than the 228. They’ll take the 228 mag (it will be a little loose) but the 228 will not take the 229-1 magazine.

P228 is 9mm.

P229 is available in 9mm, .357 SIG, and .40 S&W.

Also should be noted, that the slides on the p229 9mm is different than the p229 .357/.40. the 9 slide has less mass towards the muzzle and balances more like a p228 than it does a .357/.40 P229

As has already been stated, the 229 is slightly beefier due to .40 and .357 offerings. My 228 fits in the couple rail-less 229 holster I have. For leather or adjustable retention it should be fine, for some kydex maybe not. Stick to what's listed for best results, but there is going to be a lot of crossover, so if it's only available in 229 set up, give it a try, worst case you pay some return shipping.

Sights, triggers, grips, to some extent magazines, interchange. Other parts of slide not likely because the P228 uses a pinned breech block and P229 is milled. Holsters, as mentioned, depend. Usually holsters that are a good fit for P229 are tight for P228. Although I am a huge proponent of proper holster for proper gun, the P228/229 might be the only time I’d be okay-ish interchanging. But only after very careful consideration.

May I add and ask M11 vs 228 vs 229???

I think the M11 is not the same as the P228, but I’m no expert.

The M11 is the military designation of the P228.
The M11-A1, however, is a P229.
