I have not owned a .45acp 1911 for many years and thought that I had no need for one. But yesterday I saw a DAN WESSON V-Bob "Valor", Commander size which kept me awake all night. It is used but you wouldn't know it. I have not found any online information on the pistol so it may be a discontinued model.

It appeared to be lightly polished stainless rather than bead blasted, .45acp, NOVAK night sights, skeleton hammer and long K trigger and wood grips. Does anyone have any insight on this?

Beware of a man whose only pistol is a 1911, he's probably very good with it.

It is an excellent pistol. I had one for a couple of years, but was offered far more than what I pad for it and let it go. It was a v-bob, the valor part I am unsure of.

I bought a Vbob in 2013 in CT. Mine was stainless also. I sent it out the following year to Dave Severn's treatment. I put my Guardian Grips on it, I disliked the VZ grips.

Here is what it looks like now.

Bob Tails are a favorite of mine. I shoot them so easily. This one has over 10k through it. As does my Guardian in 9mm, and my PM7. All round Dan Wesson 1911's Are great guns.

Buy it, Enjoy it, love it.

From what I've read the "Valor" is at the top of the DW offerings but what I wanted to know is can anyone possibly lead me in a direction to find out more about the pistol as described since I think it may be a discontinued model.

I went to the CZ/DW website but didn't see anything that looks like it...close but no cigar.

I have one in SS. I stopped looking for other 1911s . This one is a keeper. Very highly regarded by the 1911 crowd. Get it , you won't be sorry.

This may have been what I saw. The model below says "Classic" but the one I saw had "Valor". I'll have to go back to verify and see what I can buy it for...

Thanks for the replies and images of your DW.

After a lot of reading on various 1911 forums, I decided I'd like a Valor. I have had mine for a couple of months now. I must warn you, once you get one Dan Wesson, you will likely want more. I now find myself longing for a Specialist and a Bruin.

I have been drooling over a V-BOB that a local dealer has in his case.

Beautiful, well built 1911's.

From what I remember , when I was researching, the Valor was their top of the line 1911. The point I kept seeing was the DW Valor was the best 1911 out there that wasn't a custom model. It has a lot going for it and I haven't regretted buying this one at all. Big Grin

Dan Wesson pistols (CZ) are excellent 1911's. I own several. They all come fit tight, but not so tight they won't shoot. Fit is the operative word, rather than a bunch of stock parts dropped into place. The fit and finish is good. They're not custom pistols, but some refer to them as "semi-custom." The Valor line is getting up closer to Les Baer cost.

They used to be the outstanding bargain in 1911's. They raised their prices, and they're not the unsung star any more, but they're still outstanding pistols for those that like a 1911.

Cosmetically, I like the lack of roll marks on the slide. I wish other manufacturers would learn and stop putting billboards on their firearms.

Other pistols are often used for building platforms; Springfield Armory gets used a lot, for example. While DW pistols can be customized, most don't, as there's no need. The triggers on all of mine, and indeed every one that I've handled, is excellent.

My personal favorite is the DW CCO, which is their version of the "concealed carry officers" model, an officer frame with a commander length slide. The frame is lightweight. Mine is in .45.

I'd probably own more DW pistols if they hadn't jacked up the prices.

There are some pictures of Dan Wesson 1911's over in the '1911 Porn' thread over in "The Gallery".

Upon seeing those pics, I added a Dan Wesson Valor (VBOB Commander) to my list of guns that I'd like to buy. It's in the top two.

Word of 'caution' I suppose if you do not pick up the one you have looked at (as I have been looking around). . .

The early black Valor's were Cerakoted, not treated with the current 'Duty Coat'. I have seen two Valor's in classified ads priced as if they had the 'Duty Coat' finish. The earlier Valor's with the Cerakote have rear sights that are different than the ones they started using when they began the 'Duty Coat' (Novak, or Novak style).

If you are not sure, call DW w/the serial number, as I did, and they can give you the build history of it.

The Valor is the top o the line Dan Wesson 1911.
I own and shoot on a regular basis a Dan Wesson 9nn Valor Vbob. The valor is as fine a 1911 as you can buy, fit and finish are the equal of any 1911, I own an Ed Brown Executive Carry .45 and the Dan Wesson gives up nothing in comparison.

I own two of the V-Bobs, one in 45 and one in 38 Super. Both are excellent guns. Well worth the money and IMO unless you go full custom you won't find a better gun. Used to CC a Colt or Les Baer in 38 Super but now find I carry the V-Bob all the time.

Dan Wesson revised their website sometime last year.

Link to Current DW V-Bob page

I currently own a Stainless V-Bob (.45 ACP) and a Guardian and ECO (both 9 mm).
They have all proven to be some of the best production 1911 style pistols I have purchased.

Funny that you should mention that. The handguns CZ always has in stock each time I get an availability update from my rep are DWs (excluding the 715 of course). The current market for $1000+ handguns is for the most part s-l-o-w, and even my rep has admitted that standard factory DW pricing isn't helping things.

That's just it. The 1911 has its own appeal, but from a practical standpoint rhe 1911 is in a state of deterioration the moment it comes from the box until the next extractor tuning or replacement and other maintenace

I can enjoy my DW handguns in the safe and at the range, but I know my Glocks will run two hundred thousand rounds, are lighter, more ergonomic, higher capacity, offer more options, are a third to a quarter the price, I can drop the magazines all day and now worry about feed issues, tolerate any weather, can be used in field conditions (mud/sand/water/whatever), and I dont care if my Glick gets scratched or banged up.

The DW pistols are well made and pretty, but expense for just the pleasure of owning for the range.

I would like a few more DW pistols, but I'd enjoy them with buyers remorse knowing I could have several more useful, reliable, capable, durable, functional, and useful handguns for the price. I was a lot happier to buy them for under a grand. At that price point, they were stand-outs compared to their competition. Having moved closer to the next level of 1911's, they're still great products but not nearly so competitive.

They'd sell a lot more pistols for a few hundred dollars less, for a higher profit. After all, if people like me who really like the brand and the product quit buying them, they make no profit off those lost sales.

I've handled a lot of DW Valors, all of them are suburb pistols. In addition to being "semi custom" / light hand fitted, there are no metal injected molded parts. Just about everything in the pistol is milled bar stock stainless steel. The triggers are some of the best right out of the box and require no gunsmithing. I really like the fact that their slides aren't billboards and the lines are clean and classic. I would recommend it to anyone looking for an accurate, quality 1911.
