I just purchased a Fenix TK11 for the night stand and in the process of getting a laser for my pistol. I've read the Surefire article on different ways to handle a pistol and a flashlight.

Handheld Flashlight Techniques

Would I be better off with a taclight on my pistol or put a laser and hand carry a flashlight for HD?

What do you guys use for HD or the LEOs?

I use both for HD. X200 on USP and E2L. There's pros and cons to a weaponlight and handheld lights. It's nice to have an option of which to use.

I decided to go with with both laser and light as one. Hope to have it in a week or so. High demand for the Viridian X5L has put them on back order.

I use handheld. A Fenix P2D for carry and an Inova X5 on the nightstand.

Options are always good. Flashlight and tac light. I've never understood the argument that "you can't have a light on the tac rail." Just because it's there doesn't mean that you have to use it.

I always have my 6P on the nightstand, but I prefer the weaponslight on my rail. I like the ability to have my other hand free for working doors, using the cellphone or being able to reload.

I use both: G2 light with lanyard around my neck, and M3 light on my 220 Carry. In condition yellow, like exploring noises outside the house, not good to be point a gun mounted light around the neighborhood, esp if you run into on site police. But definately advantages to gun mounted light, like reloads and more accurate fire. I tried to fire with hand held light in harries technique at the range, and then used the rail mounted light. Rail mounted was much more accurate and more controllable.

Why not all three ? Use your handheld to determine threat/target, then the tac light/laser to neutralize. I've heard it's not good to use the tac light to sweep your hourse if you have family members in jepoardy, but I'm not really qualified to say that, it's just a thought.

If I am at home or in a hotel, my Glock G30 has a Streamlight TLR-1 on the rail of my handgun sitting by the bed. My handgun always has Crimson Trace laser grips on it. When I am concealed carry the TLR-1 will not work since I do not have a holster to accomidate the light so in that case I carry a handheld Streamlight Scorpion.

Yeah, both. Investigate noises and clear rooms with the handheld. IF shooting starts, you can ditch the handheld and go for the better two hand grip on your handgun.
