It is AD. Would that be a triple serial numbered pistol?

I know they are not rare but how uncommon are they. I have never seen one.

I don't know if anyone knows the actual numbers of each caliber of P229 that were made, but it is generally accepted that the 9mm was the fewest, at least here in the U.S. I am also pretty sure it was the last caliber of P229 introduced which may have contributed to the smaller numbers.

A 9mm P229 will look just like the .40/.357 P229s but I believe the slide will be slightly narrower and of course the magazine well will not accept the wider mags. Another way to describe a 9mm P229 is it looks like a P228 frame with a P229 slide on it, which is what it is. Wink
