I'm in the market for a 226 and am considering an older German folded steel slide model. However when I go to topgunsupply.com and look at parts -> extractors for this pistol,
226 extractors

it has the extractors for sale, but says that the part has been discontinued and after their existing stock runs out they will be unable to order any more.
Do steel slide 226 extractors break often. Are their other sources available. Should I be concerned about this?

Just buy one to satisfy the need of the "well, what if" demon.

Then guy buy that P226 and enjoy it as you likely won’t need the extractor anyway.

Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow main is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of themselves with out this law is both. For a wounded man shall say to his assailant, "If I live, I will kill you. If I die, you are forgiven". Such is the rule of honor.

+1 on that. I've got 2 P220s and acquired an extra internal extractor, as well as some other parts - keep an eye on Gunbroker, etc for police break ups of confiscated guns and you can score a whole set of internals really cheap. I don't anticipate anything breaking, but this way I've got 1-2 extras of everything minus the actual slide and frame for the long term...
