I shot one of those recently in Germany. It shot surprisingly well. The owner had polished the internals himself, but the base pistol was actually of good quality (IMHO). It would probably be a great first 1911 for someone who wanted to try and do their own Mod work.

Why do you need to import another P228? There are plenty of them here at home.

My WG P-228 was imported in the early 90's just for me or at least I like think so. Chris

I looked into these once before. Only been able to find a few for around $500, but they are in the possession of dealers who wouldn't be interested in Customs forms etc...

There are a few of them on that popular gun auction site right now.

Yeah, that would be sweet. Tops for any safe, but I don't have $29,500 sitting around waiting to be spent.

That would be a great find. Didn't they make around 100 or so?

I guess I'm not knowledgeable enough to know what handguns other than German SIGs and autopistols are prohibited for export to the U.S.

Since I can't legally own an autopistol, there's no point in trying to get a G18 or MP5. So I guess it'll be a SIG. Maybe a P226 X-Six PPC or Skeleton, if I were to choose.

Frankly I'd be more interested in a VHTF long gun, like a SIG 550 or 552, but even those are already here albeit often for hideous money. A Merkel straight pull Helix Speedster would be neat; painfully hard if not impossible to find here. Even Eurooptic doesn't bring them in.

Hmm... How about a last-ditch sheet metal Walther Volkspistole.

Only a little over a dozen were made at the very tail end of WW2, and there are only a couple in the US, one of which sold at auction for a mere $143,750 back in 2014. Wink
