I have been looking for a pocket gun for a little while now. I went to my local store to pick up a LCP and there in the case was a like new Seecamp for $399. The serial number is in the 41,000's so feeding should not be an issue. The LCP is $319. What are your thoughts? And please don't say a j frame is the best pocket pistol, I have one and I'm looking for something a little smaller. Thanks for your help.

A 41,xxx serial numbered SEECAMP would indicate that it's relatively new in terms of pre CNC machined or post CNC machined. It's from a 2001 production if I'm not mistaken.
So, it can feed the latest suggested ammo listed on the SEECAMP website. My 48,xxx serial number gun seems to like the HORNADY XTP and Gold Dot the best. The later guns can also shoot the WINCHESTER "White Box" .32acp fmj # Q4255 ammo. Mine takes that round easily for target practice. http://www.seecamp.com/ The SEECAMP website should be able to provide you with a ball park date of production. Or, call Larry Seecamp and ask him. What other manufacturer can you do that? I love my SEECAMP .32acp! People that speak negatively of them more than likely have never handled one to see how jewelry like they are in construction. Mine has never failed to feed/fire every suggested manufacturer of ammo through it...maybe 400 rounds so far. It's completely reliable. I've never owned a RUGER LCP, but had two P3AT KELTEC pistols. Either pistol should serve you well for a "mouse gun". You just need to decide whether you want the .32acp SEECAMP or .380acp RUGER. Hell, buy them both... *************************************** What type of cheese would you like with your whine? |

I had a seecamp 32 it was built very well.
My only issue was I have carpel tunnel in my trigger finger and when firing the seecamp my finger would get slammed by the trigger housing and it hurt badly. My seecamp was accurate and never had any issues...200 round count. My son and others who shot it didn't have the issue I did. I still think the seecamp is a little rolex of mouseguns. I'd like to try out an LCP but in CA you have to be and LEO to have one mostly. I went to a Beretta 950 single action tip up barrel and a Baby Browning as my mouse guns. They are very marginal in .25acp. Ok I won't mention that the J Frame is..... the best pocket pistol... http://www.snubnose.info/ |

I like my Ruger.
(Is this mouse gun day? This is the second 380 thread in a row that I've clicked on.) The Ruger's a breeze to carry. ---------------------------------- Don't believe everything you think. |

Seecamp all the way. Smaller and very built. Don't worry about cost or availability of ammo (or 380 acp for that matter), you can find it and it is available. Thing is you are probably only going to shoot a mouse gun enough to convince yourself that your gun is dependable and after that, enough to stay compentant with your gun. A mouse gun is a self defense gun, not meant to fun to shoot or a range gun. Carry a lot, shoot a little.

Thanks for the thoughts so far. I'm going to throw a wrench in the equation. Should I suck it up, save a bit more and get a Rohrbaugh R9? Totally different animal, I know, but I am liking the fact that it's a 9mm. Thoughts?

I'm a very pleased owner of an LWS380, but I don't know if I'd feel comfortable going down to a .32 ACP for defensive purposes. While you can't argue about the quality of Seecamp pistols, for the price and considering the caliber, I'd probably go with the Ruger. If price wasn't an issue, I'd be looking for an LWS380.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but Pulicords, that's a great looking pocket holster. Who made it? How stable is it?

Ain't nothing wrong with the LCP or even the Keltech for that matter. The keltech isn't as pretty as the LCP but it's super reliable, plus Ruger copied it.

LCP for the caliber and weight. Even an LCP with a spare magazine can get a little heavy on a LONG day.

If you're anywhere near NW Alabama, and want to try them out, I've got a LCP, Seecamp .32/.380, and Rohrbaugh R9S. Just bring suitable ammo.
If, for whatever reason, I was only allowed to keep one, it would probably be the Seecamp .32, although presently it's the least used one of the group. NRA Life Member GLOCK Certified Armorer |

Not trying to hijack the thread, but in answer to your questions: It is a Del Fatti (PH-3) pocket holster and it's very stable. I carry it in my front pocket. The holster face is black Elephant. Matt does great work, but the wait is very, very long. For anyone interested, he has a PH-3 (for the Seecamp LWS32 or LWS380) in stock and available now in brown Elephant for $174.00. http://www.delfatti.com/In-Stock.html I'm not fluent in the language of violence, but I know enough to get around in places where it's spoken. |
