I get the same warm feeling handling the P365 as I do on the P228. Not getting rid of either.

Hello Gents, As I looked over the updated P228 Serial # List here, I noted that there doesn't appear to any examples from the number range of between # B140XXX - B149XXX.

Is the lack of any numbers within this particular range due to anything specific, or is it just because no examples within this range have been reported ? My P228 [KB] is # B1460XX, so I was naturally curious about the lack of examples ? As always, any & all replies will be very much appreciated. THANKS

Best, dpast32

I THANK YOU very much for your kind reply. I didn't think it was due to anything worthy of note, but you never know unless you look into it. Take care,

Is there any consensus on what is best years for the W German P228? For example would you prefer a 1989 or a 1995?

Unlike the P220, where many P220 aficionados tend to say that the latter years are the best, due to frame reinforcement, the P228 had no such revision. So, I'd say the '89 P228 is just the same as the '95 in quality. Many P228 fans/collectors like the '89 for historical reason, however - First year commercial sale, red cardboard box, true West German gun before the wall fell.

Like all Sig's, if they are stamped West Germany, I will probably like it. West German sigs had great triggers and just a little more finish work. Kind of like they really cared!

THANKS Vince, I appreciate the input. I had inquired only because I didn't observe any #'s that were relatively close to my example, which is # B1468XX / KB. I purchased it 2nd hand, as it was previously owned by a guy from another Dept. As I do with all my Sig's, I went to a Sig Factory 'Short Trigger', & haven't had to do anything else to it since then. At the time I picked the 228 up, I had been using one of my all time favorite Sigs, the P225. I had initially bough the 225, for Range carry, as I had been chosen as the Dept. Armorer & we were planning to transition to Sig's from S&W M64 Revolvers. However, in the end I decided to keep the P228 & part with my beloved P225, but, that's a whole another for as they say.

Every time I see this thread, I wish Sig would make the Proto-1 (aka P226 Compact) a reality. If the biggest P228 aficionado on Sigforum says that pistol is what the P228 should have been, do you think Sig would wake up?
Nope!

Thanks for the post 12131! I would love to see all the previous photos, would it be possible to replace the broken photobucket links to a new host e.g. imgur

I am an owner of a P228 with B serial # only marked on frame above trigger-- no proof marks. Sorry if this is a stupid question, just wanted clarification, does this mean that the parts were manufactured in Germany but assembly was done in US? My test rounds are signed and dated 02/19/2003

They may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel.

PB is still working on the major crash they experienced over a week ago at their primary data center. So, I'm waiting and hoping they didn't lose all the pics, although they claim that all the pics are safe.

Yes, your P228 was assembled here at SIG NH. Hence, only single serial number (on frame) and no proof marks. Frame and slide are German made. If the barrel has "DE" on the left side of the barrel hood, it's German. If it has the "P" marked on the locking lug, then it's US made.

Epic PB, i'm sure they had an off-site backup of some sorts.

Thanks for clearing that up, mister p228 guru!

Thank you very much for this P228 thread. I really came to appreciate it from a recent experience.

I was in a P228 discussion on another gun forum when a poster mentioned he knew a friend of a friend (yeah, I know Wink) who was a designer for SIG back when the P228 was being developed. That guy had a test prototype made from a chopped P226.

I thought I remembered a discussion here about a similar gun and a debate as to whether the gun was a fake and if the guy was a scammer because he was trying to sell the pistol. I couldn't remember what the resolution was so I looked here and lo and behold there was the prototype at the bottom of your first post. Obviously the prototype was real or you would not have bought it.

Thanks again, Q.

You know Larry Vickers just released a Sig Sauer coffee table book. I have not looked at it but I assume your 228 Proto 1 is not in there. I’m thinking that is a major piece of Sig history and he probably would have if he knew about it.
