The P228 - facts, factoids, and opinions ((**Updated** - P226C (aka, PROTO-1) info incorporated into OP))
I found this P228 on an auction site last weekend. It's a 2013 German model. What is unique, at least to me, is the serial number is sequential to the same model in the OP.

Btw, Sigman88, do you happen to know the Item Number on the box label? Is it 228-9-SP?

The pic I have does not show the end of the case. Just the front.

Did you happen to get this one?

12131, Thanks for all this information and great
pictures!
Concerning the cpo's, here's a blue box with UDE
on the label and no "Sigarms' imprinted on the it.
Not sure about the Tacom model...
Thought you might like to see this. Alas, I only have the box, not the 228.

Does your 2013 P228 use the old 13rd mags, or can it take the 15rd P229-1 mags? It appears from the serial number that your P228 might have a P229-1 frame.
EDIT: Or did you just find it but not buy it?

Nope, it's still the same old frame taking the 13-rounder.
The only factory original P228 that can take the 229-1 mag is the stainless frame one. Of course, if you are one of those who do FranfenSIGs, then, you can always use the 229-1 frame to built a "P228" that take the 229-1 mag.
Here is one (the frame is originally that of the M11A1 of mine). I got rid of the upper, and now, it's a "P228". Wink

Any major differences between the newer Sigs I.e. "AJU" prefix and the older German models? I'm about to pick one up via trade.

I've got a Sig 228, made in Germany, but it's a late model with a rail. Meaning, a 228 slide on a 229 frame. Came with 13 round magazines but the 229-1's do not magazines fit.

Have not read the entire thread yet, but isn't there another color box - Silver plastic for LEO guns? Correct me if I'm wrong, thanks....

Edited to add: I once also had a factory DAO P228 that had the DAO grips, i.e. not cut INSIDE for the decock lever. From the outside they looked the same. I posted them on here years ago and there a good thread about them, most never having seen any. Any info about those?

Yes, I have two pairs of these without the lanyard cutouts. They look like they will accept a decocker but the area is to thick to allow it.

Would a .357Sig exchange kit work on a 228?

If you swapped out the locking insert it will most likely fit. However, I wouldn't recommend it or do this myself since the P228 frame was designed for the 9mm cartridge and may not be able to handle it.

It doesn't work. Not because the frame cannot handle the .357Sig, but because the 228 frame cannot take the .40/.357 mag. The only exception is the SS frame of the Special Configuration P228 noted in the OP.
