A Sig220 - be it a Carry , regular Old or new Da, sa, Dak etc... Which one and why?
You can only have ONE! Which one & why?

SIG P220 - W. German or German build, DA/SA, from the mid 1990's. Flawlessly reliable and accurate. No question.

P220 DA/SA full size. While I love my 1911's they have been finicky with ammo on occasion. My P220 eats any flavor of .45 that I feed it.

1911 for me. I have two. I have no 220s. I used to have a 220 Carry but traded it away.

I am relatively new to 1911s but have fallen in love with them. I love the feel and balance of them. I absolutely love the trigger of the 1911. Let me put it to you this way, I was at the range shortly after buying my first 1911 (I sold a 226 to get it). I was shooting it very well, much better than I normally shoot. I ran out of ammo so I reached behind my hip and pulled my 229 I was CCing and emptied a mag. I was soooo disappointed with the difference in the trigger between the two. I went home and listed two Sigs for sale. (Side note: I did end up keeping the 229 but sold the 239).

Simply put, the 1911 just feels better to me than the 220 and since I shoot it better I have more confidence with it.

P220. SA/DA goodness, no grip safety, no extra appendages or things sticking out, in other words......clean smooth lines = high speed, low drag

Never really liked the cluncky, heavy feel of the 1911, even when I was in the Army. You asked.

After many years of refinement SIG Sauer USA has finally got the P220 to the point where it's as reliable as a factory production 1911. Big Grin

1911. My current favorite is my new Dan Wesson CBOB. I just love that gun. A bit heavy for carry, but with a good belt and holster I could make it work if I had to.

I didn't realize they had introduced unnecessary fragile parts to the 220's design and made it confusing for neophytes to completely disassemble, much less attempt to repair.

In all tongue-out-of-cheek seriousness, I would have the stock out of the box old West German DA/SA no frills, no rail, no nonsense 220 that I have. It works, never has "jammed", points naturally and will probably outlast me.

P220. Mainly because I don't have to mess with a safety. I'd have to practice drawing/disengaging the safety multiple times before I'll have full confidence in using a 1911 for Duty/Carry/Protection.

But that doesn't mean that I'm not up for learning. I just haven't got around to it.

Just my 2 cents.

I have both, and to make it easy I'd just toss a coin. Both are equally reliable, accurate, tough, and proven to me.

For me, the choice is a mid to late 90's P-220. It is what I shoot best. I have owned 1911's and they are excellent weapons, IMO, but the P-220 works best for me. Also, the vintage I mention for the P-220, just does not have any issues.

I can't shoot DA/SA guns for beans, so my pick would be a 1911.

After avoiding 1911s for a long time, I have to admit I have fallen for the smooth SA trigger. I like P220s, but if I need to hit something, I have more confidence in hitting it with a good 1911. Although, I do have an X5 Competition in .40 that I shoot even better than my 1911s. But, life on the line, give me the 1911.

Yeah... I think you got my point...

They took a world standard double action .45 and "fixed" it. Wink

In the service, we called that "fixin' somthin' till it don't work no more." Big Grin

But yeah, the German stamped slide 220s are sweet!

For a current production .45 I'd RUN with the HK45 and NEVER look back. For an out of the box no nonsense, no excuse, no BS .45 the new HK45s are the schizzle manizzle... (Yo homie, did I spell that right?)

Considering I have 8 1911's that work and a 220 Carry SAO that's been back to the factory twice and still doesn't work, I'll take the 1911.

I have a Colt XSE with no issues and a 220ST on the way. I'll let you know then. However, most people don't carry a 1911, even though they are highly accurate, have a great trigger and are super thin. I think this is because of reliability compared to other semiautos and maintenance (internal extractor tension issues, etc).

220 DAK

I like DA/SA but DAK seems perfect for self defense or carry because I dont want to have to worry about flicking off an external safety in a high stress situation and that trigger pull is just awesome.

This is just my personal preference.
