I had the P230 and nothing but trouble with the mags. Lots of jams, lots of trouble. Traded up to the p232 after a year and never looked back. A much better pistol, IMHO.
That's strange. My P230 eats everything and runs like a top. My P232 TT - not so much. In my experience, the 230 is better.

I had a stainless P230 from 1995 to 1996. Never jammed, but I didn't like the recoil and no matter what I did, it always shot high (like 3-4 inches). The P220 was rock solid bullseye at the same time, so I know I was doing it right. All my buddies shot high as well. I guess I could have sent it back to have it fixed, but never did. So I traded the P230 away for a Remington 870 Marine Magnum shotgun.

I have both and don't notice a lot of difference. Blasphemy to follow: I have a PA63 with a lighter hammer spring installed and flat grips I like better than both. I have about $140 total in it.

I purposely seeked out a used 230, due to its slimmer profile. Mine has been flawless with Speer Gold Dot, multiple types of FMJ, including the lead free WWB rounds, that literally look like a cylinder profile, with a very blunt template. I put some 3M grip tape on the front strap, like all my autos, and it shoots POA and flawlessly.
In the nearly 15 years I have had my P230 I have only had three FTF problems. All three were with the same box of ammo and all three were years ago (I don't even remember what brand it was). Those are the only problems I've ever had with it (beside not wanting to stop shooting it). Before I got it was my dads BUG for about 10 years when he worked counterfeit. I don't think he ever had a problem with it.
