I have the Sig 220 Compact (with beavertail) and am looking for an IWB holster for it. I have always generally carried an IWB and prefer it. So far I have a custom made one from and retired Sheriff's Deputy in Cherry Valley, CA (Ivy Leatherworks/ Bacon Holster Company). It works fine but I am looking for something with more retention ie.. a snap at least.

Can Anyone Help.

I own
Sig 220R, (Duty weapon)
Sig 220 Compact
Sig 226 (West German)
Springfield XD45 Compact
Glock 22 (Department Issued)
Kel-Tec P3AT

Respectfully,

Thomas

Welcome to the forum from Pennsylvania.

Most IWB holsters that I have come across do not have straps for retention. Retention is acheieved throuh good fit and the pressure of ones belt. My Milt Sparks VMII does an excellent job of retaining the pistol without a strap.

+1 on a good IWB rig not needing a thumb snap. All my IWB rigs are FIST #1K "ultrathin" kydex clip ons...

I don't remember ever seeing an IWB with a thumbsnap, but someone should be able to make one if you need it.

Otherwise, for a thumbsnap I use DeSantis Speed Scabbards for my duty P220 (no rail) & P220R Carry (rail) - 2 Holsters, one for each P220 (railed & non-railed).

For IWB, I'm using a Blade Tech Fits All. This one holster has been working fine for both the railed & non-railed 220's.

Thanks For your Help. I am not a fan of the Uncle Mike's IWB holsters and had been using an AKER IWB with thumb snap for my Block (glock) 27 (sold it!) AKER ended up getting me one for the 220 that works fine.

I also buy custom made holsters from Ivy Leather Works/ Bacon Holster Company. Great holsters, Ex LEO all leather and cheap.

Respectfully,

Thomas

I carry a P220 Compact in a KD Defender IWB tuckable holster. It is extremely comfortable and the quality is excellent. This my one tuckable holster and is usually the one I go to when wearing business casual.

I'm wearing a P220 Compact in a Crossbreed SuperTuck as I write this... no thumb snap, but it's not going to fall out. www.crossbreedholsters.com

JayHawker45, Really? I called and asked if they can make a defender for my P220 Carry because I also love the KD Defender, and they said they didn't have a mold for that pistol. But isn't the P220 Carry the same as the P220 Compact except for the grip length (which shouldn't matter on holster fitting). If so, I'll call them back and ask them for one for my "Compact" even though it's a Carry in reality.

K-Man, are you on here?

And, for the OP, I agree, the K&D Dakota Defender (or their new Laredo or Thunderbird Defenders) would be my first choice. I've had them for previous pistols and love them. I like them better than the crossbreed supertuck personally. I've owned both.

So, I think you (TPugh29) and I should both get a hold of Kevin at K&D Holsters and place an order. You'll love yours. :-)

I should have clarified, and at the same time apologies for not responding sooner. I originally bought the K&D Defender to carry my P229 .40/357Sig in. I found out that the holster also fit my P220 Compact, fits it well enough and safely enough that now, when I'm carrying the P220 Compact, the Defender is the holster that carries it 99.9% of the time. The key is that the molding around the trigger guard retains the P220 Compact safely.

As far as the P220 Carry being able to be carried in a holster for the P220 Compact, or vice versa, I don't think it's possible as the Carry model has rails that the Compact does not, that seems to me to make one holster fitting both pistols an iffy proposition.

Oh, I forgot that some of the P220 Compacts are rail-less. Good point.

I wonder if I got a P229R Railed K&D Defender, if that would fit the P220R Carry. I just really love those holsters compared to everything else I've tried and want to make it work. :-)

Thanks for the response, JayHawker45

I'm sure the Milt-Sparks is an excellent holster but if you don't want to have to wait a month to order one and 6 months to get it you should at least check out a Comp-Tac Minotaur:

http://www.comp-tac.com/produc...9venpm86g5vmtp385104

They are a lot like a Crossbreed but are much nicer and offer interchangable Kydex inserts, so if you have several pistols it won't cost as much to fit them all. Also unlike the Crossbreeds they don't look like they are made in your home garage. I've been trying several different IWB holsters including Blade-Tech, Crossbreed, Galco and others and the Minotaur is far the best I've tried so far. I'd like a Milt-Sparks but they take quite a while to get..................................DJ

If you're looking for a leather IWB that's a Milt Sparks variety, you don't have to wait weeks or months. Check out Ligtning Arms Sports

http://www.lightningarms.com/products.htm

They are a vendor source of a variety of holsters for many types( Del Fatti, Galco, Milt Sparks, PCS) of pistols and usually have anything you need in stock. Doesn't hurt to call. I was looking for a Milt Sparks VMII for my P220 SAS and they had a VMII rh in black for a P229r that fit just right.

I'm not sure if Milt Sparks make them now for the P220 compact series, but at that time that was the only option I had. Check out their site and give them a call or e-mail them. Very friendly , great service, quick shipping and very quick on e-mail responses

I use a Bulman Leather w/my P220C and there's absolutely no need for a snap. The fit is nice an snug. The leather is molded so well, the gun essentially "snaps" into place. Check it out and give them a call.
