What do those with experience think of the Les Baer Thunder Ranch pistol? Something better in the 2k price point?
It ticks most of the boxes I want and is a lot less hurtful to my CFO than a Wilson. I like how the blued pistols look after holster and shooting wear starts to show. I do wish it had 2 dot night sights and a magwell though.

Quite honestly, I'd buy a used Ed Brown Kobra or Special Forces over a Les Baer. Ed Browns are superior built pistols IMO.

I feel the opposite. I am not going to pretend I know all the in's and out's of each manufacturer but for me, I shoot my Les Baers better than any other 1911. That said, the LB is the least sexy of the bunch, but as a pure shooter I don't think you can do better than a Baer for the price point.

I had couple TRS’s and sold them. They were superb pistols in every way though I did find the thin grips a bit too thin for me. Easy to change out though. I have a Custom Carry now and although it has the 1.5” guarantee, I swear it’s easier to rack than the standard 3” models. They are all very very tight guns though! Once they break in, however, they are smooth as glass. I always like the Bears because they feel like one solid chunk of steel in the hand.

I'd go wilson first. LB second. Ed brown would be further down the list based on performance in Training classes

I had a trs comanche for a few years and even had Alchemy custom weapons tweak it a little--was super accurate but not as comfortable to carry as my lighter weight DW guardian so I sold it last year.

I'm a huge Baer fan. I've had 4 or 5 TRS guns. All were fantastic and shot great. To me the way the blue thinned as the gun was used and shot was pure damn sexy. I'd take a Baer over any of the others and I have 6 other Baers in my collection to prove it. Although I don't have any TRS's right now I do have a Custom Carry and its a bad ass gun.
I like the way Baer has the high grip under-cut at the trigger better than the Wilson or Brown. The only Baer sights I like are the fiber-optic though I can't see the dots on any of them otherwise.

My Baer Boss has 5-6000 rounds through it with-out a single issue ever and I've carried it a bit around the property. I do admit I don't care for the Commanchee (Commander) size Baers. I've had a few but I like the Dan Wesson Valor more in this size.

While I like both my Les Baer 1911 and rifle, I will not be buying anymore of their firearms. If there is a warranty issue, you are responsible for the cost to ship the gun back to them. Sucks that it will cost you more money if they don't build the gun correctly from the start.

It really comes down to what you want to do with the 1911. Whether you want to say you own a "whatever" brand 1911, or have it occupy yet another space in your safe, or shoot the crap out of it, or compete with it, or carry it, or just like the looks.

LB builds a more utilitarian looking pistol, although one that shoots quite accurately. Unless things have recently changed, the slides aren't fully fitted to the frames, meaning that shooting 500-ish rounds is recommended to do what the gunsmiths should have done in the assembly process. This is one of the factors that puts LB 1911s at a lower price point than Wilson, Brown, Nighthawk, etc.

There are a number of LB owners who have reported that LB's service on firearms leaves a lot to be desired. Not the actual work, but the hoops that one has to jump through to get service done. I haven't sent a pistol to LB, so I can't comment. However, I have talked on the phone to most of the semi-custom 1911 pistol builders, and I can state that the LB rep I spoke to did not have the enthusiasm that his competitors exhibit. I can state that Wilson, Brown, and Nighthawk personnel are all a pleasure to deal with -- regardless of their function at those companies.

It will take the very best of shooters to exploit any practical accuracy differences among the semi-custom 1911 pistol manufacturers. Don't get hung up on accuracy guarantees or cloverleaf target examples. They all shoot really well.

IMO, the finish of Wilson and Brown pistols are more refined than that of a LB. Better polishing, nicer coatings. If you want a "barbecue" gun for show, LB isn't the first choice. Nighthawk doesn't go the BBQ gun route, at least from a shiny finish look. IMO Nighthawks are more of a low key pistol.

^^^^^ IDK, this Baer seems like she’d be right at home at a BBQ, even covered in oil right out of its “birth bag”.

LB makes a good 1911 for the price. Only issue is the blue wears quickly if you expect to carry and use it. I find mine needs frequent oil to chase off rust. Otherwise, an excellent value.

My TRS is my favorite 1911 and my most accurate. Mine is also a very early gun with a 3 digit serial number. I think the early guns are the best made. I also have a Springfield Professional that cost me almost twice as much, but I shoot circles around it with my TRS.

LB 5” guns are great. Got a couple of them. Both have 1.5 guarantee......PII and a UTC (which is a TRS without the logo). The PII is blue and the UTC is hard chrome.

Don’t buy the commanche though. They’re garbage and not built to commmander specs. Ive got one of those too and it runs like a top...$800 of Gunsmithing later.

One of these years I want a rock river arms 1911. Give those a shot.

Lincoln, what model is that? Ditch that Novak rear and that's pretty much exactly what I'm after.

The Professional is what I'd like to have, but it's in used car territory. Too much $ now. The Baer is about $400 more than a TRP Operator.

Finish wear isn't an issue. I like the worn look (honest wear, not abuse) and if it gets rust prone, I'll have it DLC'd or send it to CCR.

Have owned them all - TRS is rough compared to a Wilson or an Ed Brown. You'll spend 500 bucks on ammo breaking it in, and the fit and finish sucks (emphasis on the finish).

Buy an Ed Brown, Wilson, Nighthawk, or Guncrafter and be done with it.

If I had to do it all over, I would buy an Ed Brown.

I have a LB Concealed Carry with the 1.5" gaurentee- I believe that it is a clone to the one LincolnSixEcho is holding: no forward serrations, and no .45 ACP on the slide.

Great gun. I'm certainly not a 1911 expert, but I really like mine. Accurate, reliable and a lot of fun to shoot.

Interesting discussion; for those here with far more 1911 experience than I, which would be most lol, how would versions from Cabot or Fusion fit into the overall "quality/want to own" scale with LB, WC, and EB? My first 1911 was a Ruger SR1911 and it's been a perfectly functional pistol, no issues there. Added a DW Specialist, and while in my hands I can't honestly say I shoot it better, but it certainly feels much more "all of a piece" in construction and overall quality, including appearance. So have been thinking of adding another, from a higher rung on the 1911 scale, for lack of a better term - for legacy purposes and just because I like owning nice things. Up here, since carry is verbotten, all our pistols are range toys/pride of ownership only....unfortunately.

This being said, just go straight for a Wilson Combat or Ed Brown, instead of working your way up the ladder to what you will eventually buy.

I have a Les Baer P-II and it is one my favorite pistols to shoot, right there with my Wilson Combat CQB. Sure its a little bit less refined than the Wilson (and cheaper Wink ), but the handfitting is excellent. It took more than the recommended 500 rds to loosen it up a tiny bit, the tolerances are very tight. But God, what a shooter.

I hear ya, but certainly don't mind sampling steps along the way Wink .
