I LOVE my 229 9mm...it is my favorite pistol to shoot. The 239 is worth a look and is different enough from the 229 in its function as a year-round concealed carry pistol to make the purchase. Either way, you definately are starting a collection at the right end of the spectrum.

You didn't say anything about price....the 226 and 229 are so close I probably wouldn't duplicate them...unless it was an elite 226 or something like that. Have you thought about a 1911 in 9mm? Les Baer (I can speak for their quality personally) makes a fine 1911 in 9mm...but the price is pretty fancy. In that caliber and style, there are other 1911 9mm vendors as well....S&W Doug Koenig 1911 might be an option.

If you are on a tight budget, Buds has 70-80% ex-Police P226's for $389 delivered.

Thanks for all the great suggestions - I am leaning towards the 226 but will be checking out some of options as well.

Be daring and go the opposite extreme. Get a Springfield EMP! Forget what anyone else tells you.

A Kahr. Or an EMP, or even a 239. Anything you'll be more likely to bring along when the 229 is just too big.

why bother with redundancy ? how many 9mm handguns do you need?
get a 9mm carbine and reach out and touch somthing at 3 times the distance! three times the fun at about the same price , then when you have to spend more money you can spring for a silencer for both of them .

For something different, go classic single action--Browning High Power.
