Ok ok....so I want a P220. Should I go with a brand spankin' new P220 so as to have the warranty just in case something screws up on her? Not that I think that will occur, but just in case. I'd prob get an Elite if I went this route.

OR should I get an old school stamped slide P220 and use the saved funds on some Grayguns/Customized Creationz work?

I don't think I'd really lose either way...just wanting some opinions.

Thanks!

I have several of the old stamped slide P220's and a MUCH newer P220ST. I love 'em all, for different reasons. If I had to get rid of all but one, God forbid, I'd keep one of the old ones. Seems like it's just real easy for most of us to love the older guns.

If you are getting a P220 and leaning towards the Elite, do yourself a favor and get the Stainless Elite - you'll be glad you did. I just picked up my new P229 Elite Stainless and must say, it is built like a tank.

Parts availability for the older SIGs is starting to become an issue. Many parts are common to the newer models, but the old P220 extractor is one part that seems to be no longer available.

That's what I'm going to get...forgot to mention that in my first post.

How can you not like this golden oldie? This is my unfired 1994 220.

But then, the new ones are not too bad looking either.

There is no wrong decision in here. Either one is an excellent choice. If I were you though, I'd get the older one. You can easily find the newer model at a later time.

Newer, the P-220 Stainless Elite with an external extractor.

However, my favorite P-220, bar none, is the mid to late 90's P-220. Tried, tested and true.

Oh yeah, you can still get older P-220's pretty reasonably, IMO.

Unfired!!!! I'm gonna shoot the crap out of mine!

The big reason why I'm going the P220 route is due to the new .22 kits for them too. Before I'd never be able to afford to shoot one at the range as much as I'd like, but .22 ammo is CHEAP!!

I'll run some .22 rounds through her and then box or two of 45 at the end and call it a day!

In my experience the quality of the older guns is much better than the new stuff coming out of the factory. Under the current ownership, SIG Customer Service complaints have soared as witnessed on this and other forums. On the other hand, parts availability is a concern for some of the older guns as pointed out by another poster. I prefer the older guns by a wide margin and will worry about the parts when I need them.

Best of both worlds. Wink P220 CPO. Right from the factory. Just like new, unfired, new barrel, springs, etc.

Stamped slide. New frame. New-old-stock grips I modified to fit properly.

Nice looking gun Chuck. I saw one just like it with that horizontal cutoff forward of the chamber at a large local dealer. He said it was an un-issued police trade-in. The cutoff is where the departmental identifier number would have been if the gun had ever been issued.

I went the used route - a police trade in - and saved a bundle ... using the money I saved on a range membership and many boxes of ammunition for practice. Happy to finally be a gun owner!

Thanks for posting that pic, Rhino. I've been wondering if the elite grips would fit on the older frames. Did you have to do any modification to the grips to get them to fit?

I bought a "used" one several years ago from one of the big places we all know about. I don't think it had ever been fired. I had originally belonged to the Texas DPS. It is first rate!

I have been fortunate to be able to obtain new P220's. My SIG collection consists of P220's and P220's with a couple of P220's. My new favorite is the new P220 Carry SAS Gen 2. Already comes with night sights, DA/SA and Short trigger reset. The picture is of my first P220 Carry SAS that I transformed into a DA/SA with night sights because I could not get used to the long pull of that DAK. The Standard P220 Carry was my first P220 with a short 3.9" barrel.
