We always say that very few people are ever going to fire this round count in their lifetime but it is not so impossible. Let’s say that you fire 200 rounds each month, in ten years that’s more than 20 thousand rounds!
My question here is: Has anyone of you put 20K through a single pistol and if the answer is yes then what parts have you replaced? |

Does a Sig Mosquito count?
I have 27,000+ rounds though my Skeeter. The only part that broke and was replaced was the trigger return spring. I know it sounds horrible but I have not even changed the recoil spring on it yet. There was a thread on the armorers section that listed the parts to replace at specific round count intervals for Sig P-series pistols. ~~~GO COLTS~~~ |

Yes I have, years ago 200-500rnds per week was the norm for me, averaging around 10K+ per year, that was recreational. I shot more during training, schools, and other such events. Topped 20K through a Beretta 92FS, Sig P226, P220, and Glock 17 over the years. I'd have to check my books, but I believe 32K was my personal record for 12 months of weekly shooting/training. This was also circa 1996-2003 before the horrible increase in ammo prices of recent times...
Parts replaced, nothing major...Re-sprung and replace roll pins in my Sig's every 3500-5000rnds. Changed the springs on the Beretta same interval, new locking block installed at around 15K as a safety measure since that 92 had an older locking block. The Glock got new springs every 5K. Nothing broke or failed on the weapons themselves, went through many busted magazines, mainly older Sig ones with the dovetail and zipper backs, cracked at the feedlips. Still have an old P226 with over 30K on it and runs like new, nothing more than routine maintenance and lube. |

I have, routinely fire around 20,000 rounds a year. This year has been a little slower due to the Great Ammo Depression.

I have not kept a round count, but I know Im up there with my work Sig. It goes to our gunsmiths and they replace whatever they think needs replacing.

My P226ST has over 20K rounds through it. Replaced the recoil several times as well as the mainspring. I replaced the firing pin and firing pin positioning pin at one point. More recently I had to replace the safety lever.
I also have a P226 Navy that has over 17K rounds through it with and it's got a very similar maintenance log. |

WHO are WE? I never say that. Now I don't count rounds with my firearms. However, I shoot in excess of 20K per year as well and I have been shooting at that rate or greater for well over 30 years. These days I shoot an average of 300 rounds every Sunday. That is just for fun. When we go to shoots or do a range day, firepower demonstration or teach some classes, I easily go through several thousand rounds each day. Guesstimating, just based on the amount of Unique powder I used to go through in the early IPSC days, my Gold Cup was retired with more than 50,000 through it. Probably allot more. Other than losing a front sight, I can not recall the Gold Cup ever having a parts problem. The Model 17s, Model 14s and Model 15s that I use for teaching are all way above the 20,000 round count. All of them are probably above 40,000 but since I do not count rounds and they were all acquired used there is no way to be sure. These seven firearms have been very reliable. I do not recall doing any repairs since purchasing them. Most all of my Ruger MK-IIs and S&W Model 41s are over 20,000. Hell the last time Walmart had a big sale on 22LR ammunition (few years back), I grabbed 46,000 rounds of it. I would have bought more but that was all they had. I can not think of a repair on any of these either. |

My PT-99 I got used in 04, I put well over 50,000 rounds through it before I sent it back for a freshen up, it was my only handgun at the time. Never had an issue, ever.

I recently changed the recoil spring in my West German P226 after at least 25k rounds. It wasn't even broke. Most decent handguns on todaysmarket will surpass 20K rounds. When you ask 50K without replacing anything, that is when you separate the good from the best guns.

I have in a 228 and have replaced none. I haven't cleaned it in at least 3500 rounds either. Now this is not the norm but a little test case. I do not have to load my own mags either and have well over 100 and I can shoot on my property and don't have to go to a range.

For those who have shot 30K to 50K plus rounds.... with no parts or only springs and such. Are your pistols now smooth bores? I would think a gun with 50K+ through the original barrel would pattern like a shotgun at 15 yrds.

Over the last seven years of competition I have shot at least 30,000 rounds through my gun.
I shoot a HK 40 Cal. USP. No parts have been replaced. I just feld strip it clean and lubricate it. "It takes a licking and keep on ticking!" |

My P226 has over 20k now and I have replace all the springs at least once. Slide spring when ever it starts throwing rounds too far away.
The P6 is getting close. All springs were replaced not long after I got it to prevent problems. Slide springs and hammer springs replace more often. Mosquito is getting close to 20k. I have replace the slide spring once and the trigger bar spring. Not one of these had any pistols had a spring failure nor any other part that I can think of. Proper maintenance and it is good to go. I have never considered replacing a barrel. |

I put a little over 27k rounds through an XD9 in about a two year span.
My current pet gun, a G19, has almost 17k rounds through it since I bought it two years ago. And I'm the third owner. I've put nearly 90k rounds through a P220. 60k rounds through a S&W P22. And close to 50k through a Ruger MkII. All the guns are still working fine, with the exception of the S&W P22. That pistol, made mostly of pot-metal and aluminum, is beyond repair. I bought a Wilson Accu-Comp LE back in 1986 that i've put over 80,000 rounds through. Almost every round was handloaded on my Dillon 550 and 1050. I had the Extractor break at around 35,000 rounds and the firing pin at 45,000 It came from Wilson's with a 2 to 2 1/4 lb. trigger. I started having problems with the hammer falling to half-cock at the 80,000+ mark.
The Metaloy internals helped that light trigger last a very long time. Diligentia, Vis, Celeritas |
