I went to tanger outlet today and for some reason I kept on setting off the anti theft system. Ive carried my H&K usp 40. there and it never did it. But today I carried the glock 21 and it set off every single one! I even went to starship and it set theirs off. Does any know about these systems. And is there something about a glock that sets them off?

Wow, never heard that one before. I've never had a problem, but I don't carry a glock. A coworker carries a glock 27 and hasn't had a problem that I'm aware of. I'm sure someone more knowledgeble will chime in.

I had a similar problem in Targets around town. Interestingly enough, I live in GA also.

I eventually traced it to a very persistent anti-theft sticker in my new wallet. Once I took that out, the problem went away.

If you just bought a new jacket or wallet, or something you also wear with your gun, try to find the anti-theft device in it ;-)

i was always under the understanding that the sensors were magnetically triggered, maybe today you had a sensor on you somewhere--they are usually sticky on one side and get picked up from time to time. I used to work in retail and you wouldn't believe how man people stepped on those things and either brought them in or walked them out

As wiplash23 mentioned.... you have an anti-theft tag in or on something (jacket, wallet, shirt, hat... etc, etc). Some clothing manufacturers can really bury them in an item..... do some close investigating on what you were wearing today.

This topic has been talked about at length here before. It always turns out to be an anti-theft tag.

I carry a P229DAK and two mags and have never set off a retail security sensor. I have been in countless Targets and never once had an issue.

Are you sure someone did not plant a chip in you?

Some guns today have an RFID tag built into them. It's provided for inventory control for various law enforcement agencies and the military. I believe that Glock may be one of the manufacturers who are incorporating RFID tags into some of their models.

Some anti theft systems also use RFID tags, which are normally removed at the checkout. The most prevalent use of this type of system is in the clothing stores.

I suspect that what you may have is a Glock with an RFID tag and encounters with security systems that go off whenever an RFID tag passes through the field. Which is pretty dumb today because many of those keychain credit cards are nothing more than an RFID tag encoded with your card number. (btw, I will never have any credit or debit card that has an RFID, they can be read by anyone with a RFID scanner walking past you).

As for the RFID in your Glock, somewhere on the internet I saw instruction on how to remove it. However I am not 100% sure that it was Glock who was using this system, you may want to check on one of the Glock forums. My vague memory is that it's glued to the frame under the trigger control group, however it's very vague.

Next time you're in the store, pull your gun out and rub it all over the demagnetizing pad at the checkout. Big Grin JUST KIDDING.

I've never heard of RFID tags in guns. However, nothing would surprise me anymore. There was a thread about this not long back on GT. The poster was having the same problem. He swore it was his pistol as well. As usual, the thread turned into an argument right away, so I have no idea if he ever resolved it or not.

If you have not bought a new article of clothing, wallet, belt, etc., then maybe it is in your gear.

Just out of curiosity, what year was your gun made?

RFID in pistols for tracking is a HK thing. And yes it is an inventory tracking thing.

RFID Radio Frequency Identification Device. The government agency I once worked for used these for inventory tracking. The tags use a specific radio frequency that is unique to the agency, vehicle, or personnel the item is assigned to. The sensors in a retail store should only read the items assigned as inventory to that store. otherwise your new Fast Pass type credit/debit card would set off every RFID sensor you walked past. Those cards use RFID technology. This link explains how the technology works. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R...uency_identification

I used to carry an alphanumeric pager for work that set them off every time I left a store. That got real old real quick.

Never had that happen. I've carried 2 different Sigs and my G32 to tons of places with those things without issue.

Must have been something else. I've carried my Glock 21 into that same
starship store,(they have a nice knife selection...don't judge me)and never
had a problem. Unless they have changed their antitheft system.

God bless America...and no one else
