Looks like they were both from the same production run.

+16. Probably a safe bet.

Without the box denoting a Satin Nickel, how does one go about identifying if you have one? I have an AF serial number 229 that looks like the one by the OP. It has the 40 barrel that looks to be stainless also.

Nickel SIGs are fairly easy to recognize. Whether it's factory or not is another matter. To me, a real factory one has to fulfill one of the following.

1- Original owner.
2- Original case/box with confirmation label.
3- SIG confirms for you, in writing, that it is facfory finish. Verbal confirmation means nothing. If it's not in writing, it didn't happen.

Everything else is wishy washy. Ymmv.

Yes i bet they were a small run.

Yours is the first i recall ever reading about here on the forum from the same batch of serial numbers and with the stainless steel Bbl.
I recall other members with all SN 229 coatings but not “AL” and stainless bbls.

The all stainless factory bbls are uncommon. I have seen them from the same or close years in the 226/9 & 220/45 over the years here but not that many.

Enjoy yours and shoot it. Also pick up a 357sig bbl if you want to shoot that rd.

Sean7 can you post us a few more pics please? I think it would be sweet if they came with a stainless barrel as Mustang states. Any comments of the gun with stainless barrel Q?

Wow, that's nice.

The one pictured in the amazon photo is not a Sig Gun of the Month.
The Sig Gun of the Month was put out in June, 2004.
A number of P229's were coated similar to the P229 GOTM but were not done or sold by Sig.

Look closely at the take down lever. It's flat, yes? That is a good visual key that it is not a Sig GOTM.
When Sig put out the GOTM, they were made with a "stepped" take down lever to help reduce scratching the frame in the dis-assembly process.

I have AL12466 with the stainless bbl. Always thought it was the GOTM until reading this thread... I use an EKG Fire Dragon 9mm conversion barrel with it and it shoots great.

OP's gun, although not GOTM, was sold by SIG as factory Ni. So is Mustang-PaPa's gun. Btw, none of the factory Ni guns were done in-house by SIG. They were all farmed out to be Nickel plated.

Here is the April '04 GOTM, the P228 with Hi-Viz front and comes with one P226 mag with the Freed grip adapter. The label gives no hints that it is a GOTM.
