Um, there the same thing. If you mean the P228 and the P228R, the 'R' has a rail to attach a light to.

Don't let the shorter barrel and slide fool you. Every P228 I ever shot was every bit as accurate as the full sized P226 if not more so. I am not sure what they did with the P228, but they really just got that one right.

From a bench rest, the P226 groups are about .25 inch smaller at 25 yds. In the hand, the better balance of the P228 probably makes up for the difference in barrel length and sight radius.

.25" smaller compared to what group? Depending on group size that can be impressive, or within the margin of error between two different groups.

The difference is easy.

226 = HD
228 = CCW

here in NY, Patrolmen are issued 226 and detectives can carry 228's ........3/4" in barrel length and Grip is about 1/4" difference......

Actually it is not the length OR the girth. It is HOW you use it. This applies to Sig pistols also...
