I was sitting here wondering if the Joint Combat Pistol Competition would have happened, who would have won it... So with that said, What manufacture would have won with what model of pistol?

Sorry I wish I had a list of the companies in the running at the time... Maybe we can say out of all the newer model pistols out there, what would be your pick and why?

Highpoint would have won on price alone.

LOL I hope you are joking. They would have been better off if they modified a paint gun before going with that ugly gun.

Would this have been the most recent one looking for a .45? If so, what would the competitors be?

S&W M&P45
HK45

Was the Taurus going to be entered? How about the XD45? Maybe even the FN45 too?

If I recall a manual safety was a required item, so that ruled out the Glock (I don't recall hearing about a model being submitted from them).

HK45 all the way, except for cost. Really, it's an incredible achievement. It is the first DA/SA .45 that handles like a 1911.

I found this list of guns that were going to be entered, I am not sure how correct it is...

All in .45acp

Heckler & Koch HK45
SIG P220 Combat
Ruger P345
Smith & Wesson M&P
Glock 21SF
Beretta Px4 Storm
Taurus PT-24/7 OSS
Fabrique Nationale FNP45-USG
Springfield Armory XD 45
Para Ordnance LDA 1911.

Big Grin Big Grin

If I were King for a day . . . I would have chosen the Heckler & Koch HK45. It is "one" with my hand.

The Taurus OSS. Reliable enough to just pass the test and cheap enough for the govt.

I believe the SIG would have won because it's very good all-metal pistol and SIG would have dropped their price to get the contract done.

HK45.
It is based on the extremely reliable USP platform.
I like it because it's hammer fired, and you can get a variant with a decocker and/or cocked & locked....the system is easy to use with gloves on, and many soldiers use gloves.
It is also "proofed".

I'm not sure SIG would have won. I got the impression that 10 rounds was some kind of magic number, and I can't see a mag protruding an inch and a quarter from the mag well passing muster with the military. FN wouldn't be bad, but it is bulky.

I guess by default the likeliest choice would be the HK, if they could satisfy the government on price - but then again I'm assuming a DAO trigger would be a turn-off just because having an SA option tends to make a pistol seem more accurate at the range.

The JCP program never required more than 8 rounds, but 8 was the minimum.
The pistol could have been either SA/DA or DAO, it didn't matter...neither did the striker system, (that's why Glock and the S&W M&P were entrants)
It did, however, require that the user be able to operate it with gloves on.
I think SIG would have changed the decock lever to a more user friendly version, if they needed to.

If a Glock had been included in the trials you reference, you may very well have been quite right.

As I understand it Glock refused to enter because of parts of the competition. The DOD wanted to be able to produce the gun by other means in case some really bad ever happened Glock said no.
