Hi all. First discussion posting here.

Just wanted to share that I noticed a combat threaded barrel version of the P226 (9mm) yesterday in my local dealer's display. It had the dark earth frame and black slide. Looked just like my P226 Combat TB, except the grip color was tan rather than the greenish color of my P220. I wish I had seen this before picking up a black P226 a couple of weeks ago.

It's a brand new model. I've seen add's for it by some of the forum's vendors, but it's too new to have made it to any of my local shops.

I'm still waiting to see if they come with coated internals. Here's a link to one at TGS... P226 Combat

I finally decided to give Sig another chance after all my problems with my GSR.

I picked up a 226 Combat. I had bought if for a silencer, and it does not come with the taller sights like the 220 Combat. The magazine appeared to be coated, but the internals did not.

Here is a picture of mine. There is a distinct color difference in the frame, and grips. The gun is more of a gold color, while the grips are tan.

No coated internals would absolutely kill this for me. Then, it just becomes a 226 with a threaded barrel (useless for me as getting a silencer here in NC is dang difficult) with a different color.

I enjoy my 226 Navy's (2). Both have phosphated internals. It's not that I'm looking to prevent rust, but IMHO, the coating makes the action somewhat smoother.

I wonder what Sig's reasoning for a gold frame on a "combat" handgun?

IMO, it defies logic.

Please don't quote me on the internals. It was late last night when I looked. I have a Blackwater, and a standard 226, I will take pictures and compare the two tonight.

The only reason I bought the gun was for a silencer. There are not many guns out there with a threaded barrel, already set up for a silencer. Checked with Sig, and the sights are taller than a standard 226, but not as tall as the 220 Combat, and suppose to be enough to clear a silencer.

By the time I would have purchased a 9mm gun, aftermarket barrel, and taller sights, it would have been a lot more money that just buying the combat. Plus I already have lots of 226, 9mm magazines.

I will post more pictures later tonight to confirm the internals.

I wonder why they chose to go for all that bling-bling junk instead of just using the nice FDE finish they did on that special run of 226's...

Can't speak for SIG SAUER, but I suspect it's because the anodized FDE finish (that seems to always photograph more 'golden' than it appears in real life) is a more robust finish than the FDE coating -- applied to the frame and slide of the 226 FDE, which was virtually the same shade of what I presume to be the same grip plates -- that was shipping earlier this year.

The FDE anodizing of the 220 Combat (and presumably of the new 226 Combat) is as durable a finish as the black anodizing applied to the frame of the classic P-series pistols.

It is a gold color in real life, and not just the way it photographs. I am not sure of the metal process, and what it does to the different colors, but it is a gold color.

I will try and take a couple of photographs, with my DSLR, and in natural lighting.

I checked and had difficulty telling if the internals were coated. The only un-coated Sig, I have is a 226 which has been worked over by Gray Guns. So that gun shows a lot of polishing. Is there an easy way to tell if the internals are coated? The barrel is suppose to have nitron over chrome, but it is impossible to tell. I will have to take Sigs word on some of this. They also have verified the internals were suppose to be coated.

I actually got one of the first ones of the line. It was built on Sept 2, and arrived at my dealer a few days later.

Did you hear this from Sig? If so, that is good news and makes it easier to pay that premium over the standard P226. What you'll notice on the barrel is that even after shooting it quite a bit, it will not show as many "smilies" as their standard barrel. I'll try to take pictures of the internals on my P220 combat so you can see what the coated internals look like, though mine are nickel and some are phosphated. Can you compare the frame finish to their P220 Combat?

Congratulations on a nice P226 btw. If you can, put some black grips on that thing and take some pics for us.

I have been waiting to see one and the guys at the gun shop had to call today to say they got two in. Just put down money on a nice P225 last week. I do not think the internals are coated like my P220 combat. But I still wanted one, non-TB. Glad they do no interest layway for me. Smile

Sig's FDE anodizing is crap. FN used to have a very similar mix on the SCAR's and supposedly SOCOM rejected it extremely quick as they only used it on one run.

The FDE on the 556 SWAT is nice. The Combat pistols look like baby shit gold metal flake though, and I suspect they probably glow when viewed through night vision.

Here are the pictures that were requested. By the time I got home it was dark, so I was unable to take them in natural light. The first two were taken with a green, and blue background, to see if the lighting made a difference, which it did not. Sorry I didn't bother to put the grip screws in, but you get the idea.

Blue

Green

I agree that the black looks better. I will probably order a set of Hogue Aluminum black grips, maybe with flames, and have the can done with ghost black flames to match.

Nice! Looks interesting with the BW grips.
Do you know if the internals are phosphated?
Is that a Mil-spec rail, or standard?
220 Combats have the M1913 (read larger) rail.

Just a heads up. RSR is currently selling SIG P226R with night sights and threaded barrel in 9mm at more than a hundred bucks off their usual price. It's the lowest price I have ever seen on that gun. Your dealer of choice can get one for you.

I should add that these guns are finished in flat dark earth including the grips. Not my cup of tea but still a good gun.

Other than finish, how is the P226 Combat different from the P226 Tactical?
