Well did a spur of the moment Dan Wesson purchase
. I was looking at 1911 Wiley Clapp Commander that looked un fired for 1100$ as a self retirement gift but then I noticed a SS Dan Wesson Specialist for 1295$ that was un fired, box etc. Did I make the right decision?

No you should have bought both of them.

I would have preferred the Dan Wesson as well.

Yes. Without a doubt a fine 1911, quality and craftsmanship.

Dan Wessons seem to be at the top of the list for quality for the production 1911's. I don't know pricing on them, but you should be very happy with the gun.

What size did you get? I have a Valor and picked up a Specialist Commander a little while ago. Fantastic guns. No complaints here and I doubt you will have any either.

Good choice on the Specialist. It’s a Valor with a rail.

Congratulations! Enjoy.

About a year ago I was looking through the consignment handguns at my LGS and a DW Guardian on display for $950. I kept fondling it and being amazed my the fit, finish, and ergonomics....wondering why it would be so reasonably priced. Sure, it probably had 1k or so rounds through it, but that Duty finish is like magic and it felt s0 *right*. So I got it. I did immediately sell my Sig Fastback Carry afterwards though.

I'd say you made the right decision, but... Wink

Yep. Great choice.

A big step up in quality for only $195 more.

Dan Wesson owns the $1000-$1500ish 1911 market. Noticeably higher quality than the bigger name factory guns (Kimber/Colt/S&W/SA/Ruger/Sig/etc.) in that same price range.

I wouldn't go that far. Higher quality perhaps, but DW is a good 20% more expensive too (or more) than the brands you quoted. I bought a Colt Competition S/S 9mm 2-3 years ago and the slide to frame fit and the bushing/barrel fit rival my Wilson Combat and Ed Brown. The trigger has a little up and down movement but breaks clean with almost no take up...….the grip safety does have some side to side movement. Esthetically it is perfect. I was incredibly surprised at it, after owning 5 other Colts, as well as 1 S+W, a ballester, an Ed Brown, and a WC.

That is very interesting.
Is that true?
Is the Specialist now their top of the line?

OP,
Great choice. I have a much appreciated Valor, and have only heard of good DW experiences.

You made the right choice. DW can't be beat for the price.

Yeah, I had a DW V-Bob a while back that I wound up selling. Still kick myself for that but at the time I needed the money. I'd give my left nut to have it back.

Admittedly a DW fan owning 4 of their 1911s since 2009-2010 but a resounding YES to your acquisition choice!

Where are the pictures?

Its a great choice, even more so if you are happy with it!

Now you need to share. DW's are beautiful and great values.

Excellent choice! I actually bought a Wiley Clapp and hated it. Sold it back to the gun store and bought a Dan Wesson Classic Bobtail. A great 1911 that has been flawless so far with all ammo and as accurate as I can shoot not to mention super reliable. I have been happy with other brands of 1911's however, should I decide to buy another 1911 it will be a Dan Wesson.

I bet you're going to LOVE that one! {{thumbs up}}

You made a much better "spur of the moment" choice that I have in the past.
