I would imagine the same could be used on all P Series pistols (don't hold me to that).

1. Remove left side grip
2. Remove decocking spring while holding the bushing from the back side (I used my little finger)
3. Lift decocking lever from bushing
4. Place pre-lubed shim on bushing
5. Re-assemble pistol varifying decocking function before re-installing grip

Piece of cake. The part numbers are as follows:
pn:98055A095 0.1mm thick
pn:98055A096 0.2mm thick
pn:98055A097 0.3mm thick

All the shims have a 5mm ID and 10mm OD.

I used a 0.2mm shim on my 226ST and a 0.3mm shim on my 226R (alloy frame) and a 0.2mm shim on either side (two total) of the decocker of my wife's P6. Not only does this lift the decocker off the frame, but tightens up the function.

No more scratched frame.

Tom

Brilliant! Does Mcmaster-Carr sell Teflon shims?

I'm thinking Delrin is the material we want. Used as a bearing/slide surface in sailboat hardware among other places. Very low coefficient of friction, tough, durable, heat resistant, and I believe available in black.

Now if only Tom or Bruce would come up with a way to eliminate "Idiot Marks" on a 1911... Wink

Seriously, great stuff; I want one on my P220 10mm now! Cool

OK now for the pictures....

This is what you will need....

With decocker and decocker spring removed...

With shim installed...

After installing the shim, re-assemble.

Keep in mind when you're looking for material that the MAX thickness is 0.35mm (0.0140"). Anything thinker starts to bind the spring and causes the decocker to rub on the inside of the grip. An Alternative would be to machine that same 0.35mm from the backside of the decocker near the control surface and flat below it.

Holy Thread resurrection Batman!

Hi Tom, I just put down money on a new 229r and am interested in this procedure.

Any updates as to its performance so far?

Thanks so much,

RFB

I hate it when my decocker rubs my frame! Smile I'm going to try this little fix also.

I bought a package of the .2mm shims.
I wish I had also bought some of the .1mm ones.

Anyone want to trade 20 shims???
I don't want to repay the shipping on another set.

.2mm works fine on P239 but seems too thick
for my P229.

Well, i ordered a pack of the 3mm, and a pack of 2mm, didn't think i'd need a 1mm too. Frown My 229 is still at the smithy so I haven't tried to install yet. Dave, i'll split the cost of a pack plus shipping w/ ya. Watcha say? (if somebody else doesn't have a couple extra 1mms)

Guys, couldn't you just buy .1mms and stack 'em if they're too thin? Wink

+1

Me too, if anyone has some to spare. I have a 226ST, so I'm most interested in the .2s, per the OP recommendations.

Any updates from someone who's been using their handgun with this modification?

I found a thin shim, about .002 or so and polished real well and installed it on the bushing with a coat of TW-25 beneath and on top , then I put the lever , the spring and, voila`, the thing works like a charm . It is perfect, and, one ask himself : Why the people at Sig Sauer have not done that ? This is a brilliant, brilliant idea . I for one polished the lever previously , but I was never satisfied with the result and it kept scratching the frame some. Now, it is perfect.... I did use a little compound to take out the scratch on the frame, with my finger, very, very carefully and took out some of the scratch, not all. I wish there is a procedure to completely erase the whole thing , but I think that I am asking too much. In any case, I did take out around 50 or 60% of the scratch , and , since now it is not damaging the finish any more, it is only a very , very thin line, almost nonexistent... I am very happy . Thanks so much ...josey88

So .002mm thick is the "best" size to order? I'm thinking about ordering a few.

Is that the common consensus? Any ideas on reliability - people who installed; any issues/problems??

Thanks!

I only ordered .002 which are too thick for my 229, but work great on my p239.

If I had to do it again I would order .001 and stack them if .002 or .003 were to be needed.

Well, the shim I found , I think is around .002 ... I don`t have calipers to measure it. My gun is a 229 Elite 9mm ST and the shim works perfectly . josey88

I pulled the grips off my X5 All Around and checked. Mine has a shim already from the factory between the frame and decocker lever. Maybe it's something new SIG started doing or maybe just on the German guns. I got the X5 in April of this year.

The factory shim is .040.

It was still leaving a shiny spot where it rubbed so I polished the decock lever and put a piece of grip tape (rubber, not abrasive) on the frame under the decocker part still under the grips. It tightened the lever and provided just enough support to prevent the lever from touching the frame. Works fine.

I didn't have time to check my older SIGs- P226, P220, or P6.
