From the 1th of July 2008 all the bolts of the SIG SAUER-pistols are milled out of a solid block of steel.
Models with sheet metal slide have been discontinued: http://sauer-waffen.de/index.php?id=506&lang=en&tx_ttne...]=4&cHash=acfa0d8f10 |

Took a while for Europe to catch up, but we all knew this was coming.
__________________________________ If you think gun magazines are objective or honest, when's the last time they wrote a truly negative review of a firearm? Do you really think all of those pre-production models they're shooting run as reliably and shoot as accurately as they say they do? 90% of gun malfunctions can be attributed to poor ammo (reloads, Russian, etc.), lack of maintenance, weak springs, cheap magazines, or improper technique. When a well-trained shooter using a wide variety of high quality ammunition fed from a reliable, self-leveling magazine shoots your gun after it's gone through a through inspection, spring replacement, and cleaning, and still has problems, then it's the gun. Until then, the problem is YOU. |

Crap! I've been wanting a P228 for a while but have been buying other stuff instead. I think the AR15 just got delayed while I pick one up before they dry up.

I guess they will no longer be providing the US Military the 228/M11? I wonder if they will be switching to the 9mm P229.

Well, to me, that signifies the passing of an error. Some of the best defensive pistols ever made were stamped slide SIGs.

I don't get the "Massive Attack" part.... is that just a translation error?
I got a bunch of SIGs but I still need the 2xx... It never ends.... |

The german version says: "NEU: Aus dem Vollen". When one side compromises and the other refuses to, guess which one wins? |

Perhaps a different subject line for this thread would be beneficial, but let's not get sidetracked by minutiae. |

The end of an era. A sad day for most of us who fully appreciate the classic Sigs....They were ( and still are ) my favorites.

Oh well, I have enough stamped slide Sigs to last the rest of my shooting days.
Did they give a reason? Something along the lines of "doing it for the children"? |

I am suprised it took them this long to make the transition. It is not that big of a deal to me. How many people were importing 228s from Germany anyway. Most of those new folded steel slides only found there way over to the states on rare occasions.

There have been some posts in the past stating that the equipment used to make the stamped slides is getting old and to replace it would be cost prohibative, and it would be best to stop producing before the equipment starts producing bad guns. The equipment for the milled slides is already in place and is easier (?cheaper) to use. cc |

There are PLENTY of M11s in inventory, with reasonable maintenance, they can stay in circulation in perpetuity. Having said that, DCIS has transitioned to .40 S&W (G23, G27, Sig P229, and P239); NCIS is transitioning as we speak to P229Rs and P239s in .40; USAF is looking for its own "next" combat pistol in .45 ACP; and USCG has transitioned to P229Rs in .40. So, there's not THAT many M11s required anymore... Regards, Kevin "Fast is fine; accuracy is final" |

In the Navy the only ones to carry M11's were aircrew. We had some ones that were pretty good, but the finishes on them were getting quite bad. Not that we shot them much (50 course before each deployment, plus some extra if we had the bullets) but they get pretty knocked up in your flight gear. The mags take the beating, since people put them unprotected in random pockets. I found a couple that got dented and wouldn't have fed anything after the first round went bang. That's probably why I brought 4 of my own mags along. Too bad bringing a P220 with me was not an option... pitty...

There is a bright side to this dark story. If the government transitions to a replacement for the M11, think of all the 228 CPOs that will hit the market!!!!
