What do you guys carry in you short barreled .45s and what kind of gun is it?

I've tried just about everything in my 1911 OM. I like the Rem.185grGS std. vel. It makes 900fps+, expands well & penetrates deep. The 185grWWSTHP also does well. Both offer lower recoil than 230gr. If you are worried about penetration, the Hornady 185gr or 200gr std. vel. dig deep but expansion is limited.

Great question. I've been trying to figure out the same thing.

I have a Kimber Ultra Carry II.
I shot some Golden Saber 185gr.+P's yesterday. Ouch, they were hot.

I find the Winchester 185gr. Silvertip pretty comfortable to shoot without much muzzle flash. I find the Golden Saber 185gr & Gold Dot 185 standards okay, but snappy.

I'm considering the Hornady, but I'd like to find someone who has used it.

Federal makes a 165gr. low recoil round. I know of no one who has used it. Federal also makes a 185gr I think. I have heard the FEMJ (expanding jacket) is supposed to be good as well.

I was told not to use +P's in my Kimber by the folks at the Kimber Factory.
I think a bullet with the diameter of a .45 makes a nice hole when placed on target, so I don't worry about expansion.

There are so many choices.
