I have read that #1 buck was probably the best HD round for 12 gauge. Where to buy. I can find everything but. Just wanted to try it.

I have read similar articles. But in the end I feel that if it was THAT MUCH better than standard 00 buck then the companies would make and sell more. I doubt any recipient of 12ga 'love' will know the difference.
In truth, it is a pretty obscure load that is not widely available. Personally I go with Winchester Reduced Recoil 00 Buck in my 870. Purchased from ATG at reasonable prices. Sorry I can't be more help. 209 Amateurs practice until they get it right. Professionals practice until they can't get it wrong. |

I like the idea of #1buck, but it patterns like crap in my M870. You are better off IMO w/ #00 low recoil. It patterns well, landing all8-9 pellets on a 11x17 paper @ 15yds. In my SG, #1 buck only lands half the pellets w/ more recoil. Whatever you decide to use, pattern it in your SG before you buy bulk. It does matter.
IF YOU AREN'T HANDLOADING, YOU AREN'T SHOOTING ENOUGH! If you could make your own gas, wouldn't you??? |

Try Federal's Tactical OO Buck-Flite Control
Comes in 8 or 9 pellets. At 15 yrds the pattern is so tight it looks like yout shooting a slug. This is all I use now. |

Natchez has some:
http://www.natchezss.com/ammo.cfm?contentID=ammoGroup&a...hotSize=18&shotLen=0 I use #1 exclusively for deer hunting. I don't have a SD shotgun though. I think it would and should work just fine. I don't know about it being better or the best though. I would want to personally make sure it runs and patterns in my SD gun if I were to go that route. cc |

My deer hunting is primarily done with rifles, so my experience with buckshot is somewhat limited (2).
But, in both instances, the #1 dropped them right in their tracks with one shot. Of course I'm not making 200 yard shots or anything. As a wise old friend of mine once said, "It puts a bunch of 30 caliber holes in the deer. .30 is fine for me" (he hunted with a 30-06 when not using the shotgun). cc |
