I've tried one 20 round box of the stuff. I ran all 20 rounds over a chronograph and it averaged 1352 fps with a P229. That's only a little bit faster than what Gold Dots do out of the same gun, and nowhere near the claimed 1425 fps.

Also, the bullets were seated out longer than normal (a common Cor-Bon practice), and one round didn't chamber properly as a result. That's the only chambering failure I've had with about 15,000 rounds fired through P226s and P229s chambered for 357 SIG.

I wasn't impressed.
My choice for defense is the Gold Dot load.

Thanks for the info Sigfreund. I've been carrying the Gold Dots myself. I was just looking for different carry options. I guess I'll just stick with the Gold Dots.

Tks,
JR

I'm with sigfreund, stick with the Gold Dots.
I've run the 115 grn Corbons through my P229 and my wifes 239 and was'nt impressed. No malfunctions but not as accurate as GD's. I've tried the 125 grn. Corbons and had one failure to feed in the 239 and one in the 229.

Ditto! the GDs for me. Corbons also seem to be 'frag-nasty', & I'd prefer for my rounds to maintain their shape/weight

If you feel the need for speed for your 357 sig, Try some buffalo bore ammo.

IF Corbon is still using Sierra 125grJHC, frag-nasty is a good term for them. I get them to completely come apart @ 1300fps. The WW 125gr Ranger is a great load. It seems the hottest of the ones I have chrono thru my P239 @ 1340fps. Expansion is almost 70cal & 11" of wetpack penetration, accurate too. The 125grGD do 1300fps & the Rem 125grGSB make 1325fps. All expand well & penetrate deep. All are much cheaper than Corbon.

Does anyone have any ballistic test results on the .357 sig Buffalo Bore ammo besides the company?

I switched from Cor-bon to DoubleTap and Buffalow Bore because the Cor-bon seems to frag too much after expanding. Notice the loss in grains after hitting the jugs. Notice that Gold Dot based ammo retains almost all 125grs of weight.

It's going to be the same as the 357sig Speer Gold Dot ammo. That's the bullet BB uses. They speed it up to 1430fps in their product.

I've heard good things about Buffalo Bore. My only concern would be the Gold Dot coming apart at the higher velocity, as JHP's are designed to expand at certain velocities.

I'm not sure it would come apart, they are sort of bonded. WHat does happen is the petals fold back & the recovered bullet will have a smaller diameter than than one fired at the designed vel. I have seen this w/ GDSB bullets driven faster than designed for.

Are you talking the regular Corbon or the DXP? The DXP is solid hollow point, no lead, and I have never seen one come apart.

Trust me, the Gold Dot isn't going to come apart. If it does, it *might* only lose a petal or two and not enough to matter a bit.
Pushing the velocity up will increase expansion.

Look at these pics from a wetpack test I did.

Tks,

Be advised, there are TWO versions of 357SIG Gold Dots from Speer.
One has a shallower cavity and penetrates more.
I *think* one is a 124gr and the other is a 125gr.
Speer's site is down right now so I can't reference it.

For yet another great option, you should try the 357sig Golden Saber Bonded!
I haven't tried any *yet*, but I'm pretty sure it'll out penetrat just about anything.
