I see they make this round for revolvers with a 255 grain Keith style semi-wadcutter lead bullet. They rate the velocity at 904fps from a six inch barrel.
What do you think of this as a defensive round? It definately had the weight!

Because of its flat point bullet, the load would probably produce some slight additional wounding effects over something like a round-nosed bullet in 45 ACP. It wouldn't be much, IMO, but if you're stuck with a nonexpanding design, any improvement would be better than nothing, I believe.

The extra weight over the common 230 grain weight in 45 ACP would provide additional penetration, but that would seldom be of any significance for defense against human threats. The extra weight would of course also increase recoil.

Given a choice, I would take the DT JHP load over the one with the Keith bullet. I believe the latter load is really intended for hunting purposes.

That makes sense. I'll check out that other load. Thanks!

If the LSWC was soft enough, it might do ok against human targets but JHP would be better. If they would HP that big LSWC, then you would have a serious SD round. I agree w/ sigf though, go JHP.

IF YOU AREN'T HANDLOADING, YOU AREN'T SHOOTING ENOUGH!
