The bullet weight is 55 grains. There are 7,000 grains to the pound.

55 grain has been the standard .223 round for many years. The recent trend in .223 is towards heavier bullets. 62 and 75 grn is very common today, and it is why more and more guns come with 1-in-8 and 1-in-9 barrel twists, to better stabilize the heavier round.

+1 Spectre.

The original military ball ammunition for the M16 rifle included a 55 grain FMJ bullet (the M193 cartridge).

Typical pistol ammunition bullet weights are 115gr for 9mm, 180gr .40S&W and 230gr for .45ACP.
