For my DW Pointman 7 I keep Military 230gr. Ball, mostly vietnam era vintage. I also have a few boxes of Camp Perry Military Match 230gr. ball.

Some Commercial Federal, PMC and MFS 230gr. FMJ too.

Hollow points consist of Winchester 230gr. JHP and Winchester 230gr. SXZ JHP.

I only bother with 1 handload which is a 230gr. Round Nose Lead under 5.0 gr. of W231 with an overall length of 1.260.

Tactical Defense had them a few months ago, picked up 5 boxes. You gotta watch this forum, usually a member will give everyone a heads up when its in stock at a reasonable price . . .

Got a boatload of 230 grain Remington Golden Sabres, but the feeding problems due to excessive over all length you've read about here are all too real. Will be switching to Federal HST when the current stash runs out, since it's a PITA to check every round and set the "too longs" aside for use in other pistols. Other than that, they're great.

I'm a variety kind of guy so I carry one out of 4 or 5 choices depending on my mood. But the ammo that goes in them is pretty much the same.

p220 eats Hornady TAP 200gr .45 to come as close to identical performance to the TAP 180gr .40 that my p229 and p239 eat.
Though it occasionally snacks on 230gr +P TAPs or a handload worked up to just slightly put a little more speed on the same Hornady bullets than the stock TAP +P does.

I havent been able to come up with an equivalent for my .357sig p229 to eat yet, though that has become my most regular carry since my p239SAS ate the pavement and I haven't fixed it up yet.

I don't have any defensive ammo for my 45. I simply don't trust it as much as my Sig or my Glock.

That said, i keep lots of .45 ball ammo just in case... Just standard 230gr ball ammo.

230 gr. HST, but I'd like to get some of the 230 grain +P. I trust the non +P more than enough, but it seems to me the extra little "oomph" couldn't hurt. If I happen to find some at a decent price I'll get them, otherwise I'll stick to the non +P's I already have without regret.

I have a bit of 230 grain GoldDot for use when my HST runs out after the millions of zombies run amok (lol). For practice I usually run WWB or Blazer Brass 230 grain, though I've been known to shoot rather a LOT of S&B 230 FMJs, as well.

I'd *love* to get moving on reloading and use cheaper hard cast 230 grainers, but I'm still not sure about how much lead fouling stems from their use. Anyone willing to comment? I'd really appreciate it, and any good loadings you guys use that would put those 230 gr. hard casts out at roughly 850 fps. I have the equipment, plenty of primers for now (only Federal large pistol, if that matters much), and some brass--just need ideas on powder choices and the bit about PITA cleaning if using the hard cast bullets. TIA!

Oh, and I don't mean to derail the OP's thread intent; I thought the above question went well enough along with the subject. Smile

What ever 230 ball I can find for target but the American Eagle is the dirtiest of them all. Will leave lots of unburned powder on your arms and face, I mean a LOT and not just a little residue either. Got some of that cheap and now I know why!

Purchased some American Eagle by Federal in another caliber, and dirty was a fact for me. That ammo was purchased in 2000, and I have not used any of it since. I could not sell it to a friend, because they are my friends, but even a dealer would not trade un-opened A.E. ammo for anything.

So if you have A.E. keep it for an emergency or plinking included with the desire to clean your face, and hands sooner that you thought.
