I tend to go with the 165gr. I also shoot out of a medium length barrel in the P2000

For personal defense, whats grain do you like best?

180
165
155

I am sure they will all get the job done, not trying to define the "ultimate superior one shot man stopper"

Just wondering what you like/use. do you feel the 180 has slightly more recoil etc.

165 for me too. I tend to go with 180 when I can't find 165. I don't really feel like 180 recoils any more than 165.

I've always felt that the 180's were milder compared to the 165's. 180's had a little less 'snap' to them.

I prefer 180s, but tend to only find 165s... I feel like 165 snaps a bit more.

In 40cal I really like 180gr fmj for range training and in JHP for business. I find the 180 gr 40 shoots softer than the lighter loads and has less muzzle rise and enables quicker follow up shots. It is a dream to shoot out of a SIG 229 and I am pleased with the terminal ballistics of this larger, heavier bullet. If I want more speed and "zing" I just drop in the 357SIG barrel. Bill.

I've found that the 165 shoots POA in my 229 where the 180 shoots low.
