I've always considered Golden Sabre to be kind of second tier, behind the big players like Gold Dot or HST. How is their bonded stuff, specifically the 124gr 9mm +P? I've shot some of it, and it feeds and fires fine. I don't see a lot of discussion about this ammo compared with some of the other bigger names. So what has your experience been?

It's older bullet tech. Golden Saber was one of the best options when it first came out, but has been surpassed by newer, better options. (Kinda like what happened with Federal Hydra-Shoks or Winchester Black Talon/SXT.)

I carried Bonded Golden Sabers for several years as duty ammo. My agency switched to HST about 4 years ago, which has better test results.

If I had a bunch of Golden Sabers on hand, I wouldn't necessarily throw it out and replace it. And I would be comfortable carrying it, if it's all I had. But if buying new ammo, I'd suggest going for something newer/better like HST, Gold Dot, or Critical Defense/Duty.

My agency has now started issuing the Golden Saber stuff. Previously, we carried Gold Dots. I like to rotate my duty ammo, but I'm in no hurry to start carrying the Remington ammo.

Meh, everything Remmy is dead to me. Golden Sabers have been out FOREVER and was never great. Not bad, mind you, but there is much better stuff out there.

Ouch. That's a step backwards, IMO.

That was my thought too, hence the question. When I asked about the switch, I was told that it was all they could get a firm delivery date on. They said that Speer and Winchester were both unable to give a definitive timeline for delivery, so we ended up with Remington.... Roll Eyes

So, they bought the best ammo they could get delivered?

I'd venture it's a lot better than any ammo that couldn't get delivered.

I would have no problem carrying it, standard or bonded. Are there better offerings? Absolutely.

My bedside P226 is loaded with Federal 9BP. Not anything I'd carry for LE duty, but it's so darn accurate in everything I put it in, I always have some around.

They are good. The .380 is one of the heaviest rounds made in that caliber and I've been using the 9mm for years now.

Not sure about all this snobbery I see here, they will kill a bad guy as dead as some fancy whiz-bang new stuff will if you do your part.

It’s better in some calibers than others. I prefer the hotter Winchester or Speer GD’s...

Yup. What he said ... Cool

They are accurate, reliable and make just as nasty a wound as any of the latest fads.
