I am not allowed to carry hollowpoint bullets in New Jersey as a retired LE. Any idea on what round I can carry besides the FMJ. Or should I just carry the FMJ?

Based on a quick search, I don't see any offerings from the big or well-known smaller ammunition manufactures other than hollow point or FMJ in 357 SIG. Short of finding a supplier of custom ammunition loaded with soft point bullets, it seems to me you're pretty much stuck with FMJ.

As big a fan as I am of the 357 SIG cartridge, I would still probably switch to a different chambering to allow me to carry something like the Federal EFMJ which is an expanding bullet that seems to perform pretty well, but which isn't a hollow point design.

Because of their velocity, 357 SIG flat point FMJ loads can produce some impressive results, but only in certain target materials. For most defensive purposes I wouldn't expect it to be noticeably better than any other FMJ stuff.

I am not a fan of Pow'R Ball Ammo personally, but they make an ammo you might be able to use.

I have not seen any ballistic studies of this ammo.

Good fill; I didn't locate that option in my search.

you might do a little research on the EFMJ rounds. the Detroit Police Dept. carries/carried that round for awhile and results were disappointing. they may have already dropped it.

IMO, if they ever go that way here, I will only caryy a 45acp w/ FMJ ammo. The 357sig already penetrates well, going to FMJ will certainly give you thru & thru penetration on any BG. I would switch calibers or go to the EFMJ or PowerBall.

I'm sure it's no problem, but does that cartridge look like the OAL is a bit short?

The PRNJ is absoutly evil on their enforcement of thier gun law. Hollow point ammo is not illegal in NJ, but carrying it concealed unless you are an active LEO is. If you are ever involved in a shooting, no matter how legal or justified, the DA's office will prosecute based on the ammo. NJ did not want to recognize LEOSA to begin with, and cuts no slack to thier own retired LEOs, never mind anyone else.

Maybe but 100 grains is a little light, even for me. And I have not been impressed with the QA reports I have seen online, fwiw. Now an all copper Barnes projectile in 357SIG, I would be interested and the lighter weight would not be an issue for me.

BTW it looks like to me after some quick and dirty websearching that the Barnes all copper .355 bullet is 125 grain. Not that it will help the OP. Sorry.
