Anyone have any feedback/experience using 9mm WOLF Ammo?... With ammo $$cost UP, been lookin at some of the bulk, mail-order deals... Do the SIGs like this ammo?... Been using WMT Winchester Whites for $19/100 in my P229 with ZERO problems, wondering if it's worth trying to save a buck with the 'off-brands?'...

Check the Ammunition forum and you'll see lots of pro and con comments about Wolf. I use it almost exclusively for practice in my 9mm and .380 Sigs and have not had any troubles whatsoever.

Some say it's dirtier than the "brand names" but I clean my guns promptly after each range visit and don't find it a problem.

I buy it by the case from Ammoman.com and save quite a bit of money, along with having UPS deliver it right to my door. That saves me sales tax and the hassle of running around town trying to find the best deal.

Not worth it when Remington UMC can be found at WalMart cheap. If "ammoing up" is 400 rounds at at a time like me, I would avoid mail order. I only use mail order for a special kind once in a while

It may not be relevant for handguns, but Bushmaster recommends not using steel cased ammo in their guns, especially not during the break-in period. It is not the steel case but rather the lacquer over the entire round that burns off and n coats the chamber and barrel. That sounds reasonable but I have never heard of anyone having trouble with Wolf and have personally shot a bunch 7.62x39 and 9mm through a CZ and never saw a problem. But it used to be really dirt-cheap and now I want the brass.

I'm curious. What's the reason for avoiding mail order?

Always time to go over it. The 9mm is very accurate but a little dirty. It worls as well as all the others.

Try sportsman guide they have good prices. But I have shot thousands of rounds of Wolf rifle and handgun ammo with no problems.

Its a little dirty but accurate

By the time you add shipping cost onto it you probably won't save money unless you are ordering in 1000 round quantities or more though.

I try to buy ammo in AT LEAST 1000 round quantity for this reason.

Where did you get your info about Bushmaster and Wolf ammo??? My Bushmaster shoots Wolf MC just fine.

From Bushmaster;

Question / Issue

Is steel case ammo, such as that made by Wolf, O.K. to use?

Answer / Solution

Many people use the steel cased ammunition in our rifles with chrome lined chambers with no problems. The mild steel casings have not shown to produce any significant premature wear. For better results and reliability we recommend American factory .223 or NATO 5.56mm ammunition

+1 Steve.

When I practice with my AR, I shoot steel case (Wolf, Bear). For carbine classes, I shoot brass cased ammo.

When shooting PISTOLS, how important is the casing (ie. steel vs. brass)?...
I understand you want to stay-away from LACQUER coated ammo (ie. old WOLF)?..
Are the SELLIER & BELLOIT better quality?... which are best for a 9mm SIG?

My three 9mm Sigs all seem to shoot anything I run through it, including "old" Wolf. For range use it was fine; however, I have no more of it. Just clean your pistol after shooting it and pay particular attention to the chamber. Went thru several boxes of S&B some years back - no issues.

Thanks guys!... picked-up three boxes of the 'older' Military Wolfs ($7+/#50)... and we'll she how the ole SIG-229 likes it.
I guess my only concern is the potential for 'gumming-up' a great $800 gun!!!
I always clean-up after each shoot... so I'll just be alittle extra careful.
Again, thanks.

You eat your savings - and maybe then some - in shipping costs.

IMHO, Wolf is great in Russian calibers in Russian guns. My Rock River never gave me any complaints firing a buddy's silver bear, but my God that rifle was dirty afterwards. Never fired steel-case centerfire from my handguns, and I don't plan to start.

How did it work out, EJO?

Just because it's a $800 pistol doesn't mean you have to fire expensive ammo through it.
