BATF cashed my check. Does that mean it's approved? Now what 12 week wait?

Read a few threads in the suppressor forum, this seems like it's every third thread...

Nevertheless: your check being cashed does not mean approval, if it is not approved, you will get a check for $200 back.

Current wait time is around 2 months.

Reading these should give you your info:

The check clearing is the signal that the REAL wait has started. They cashed my check the last week in April. I picked up the can June 30th.

Cashing your check is the first thing that happens. Atlanta is just a bank drop box, the bank cashes the check, and then puts the form 4s into a shipping box, once the box is full it's shipped to West Virgina.

I equate the check being cashed to the childhood memories of knowing your wishlist is in Santa Clauses' hands.

You know you want it, he knows you want it, will you get it.?? Probably.

I hope the wait times get back to the way they were last year. My last form 4 was three weeks, mailbox to mailbox. This was over a year ago though. Frown

Will one less box of ammo, this month, kill you?
No, but the money could save a child's life...

Hell, fellas. I bought a can from an individual in December of 2006. The paperwork came through about 10 days ago. Oh, you think I'm pulling your leg? Guess again.

Now, given the above, things don't seem so bad right now, do they? Razz

No, it means you've paid your nonrefundable fee - now they can begin the investigation.

BATF just approved my Form 4 on a trust transfer this Monday 10/01/08. Check was cashed 7/28/08 so looks like a 9 week turn around time. Not to bad. Has anyone recieved a faster NFA transfer latley?

The fee is refundable. You can write in and cancel any time before the process is complete and they refund the $200. Also if you fail the background check they refund the $200.

Trusts dont have backgrounds but you still have to pass a NICS check to pick up the item. The trust route seems to go faster.

No, you fill out a 4473 from a dealer but there's no NICS performed, it's got its own exempt box, 'this transaction only included NFA firearms' or somesuch, at least when I did my last dealer transaction a yearish ago.

That's crazy! Any idea why it took so long?

I'm "in the process" of getting a can myself...

Yep your'e right. 4473 only. No NICS. Its the only time the ATF acknowledges during the whole trust process that there actually a person receiving the item and not just a bundle of papers called a trust.
