I want to buy a suppressor for my Sig 226 in 9mm. My local dealer sells Yankee Hill Cobra's, and Yankee Hill Wraith's.

Just FYI, I converted my Sig 226 to a 9mm from .40 because I was told 9mm suppressed works much better. Purchased a 1/2"x28tpi threaded barrel from Barsto.

Which suppressor should I get? I know very little about these cans and can use all of your in put. Thanks!

I know a lot of people like the YHM cans but the ones I've used have had a louder FRP than I'd care for.

Were it me I'd look into either an AAC Evolution 9 or an SWR Trident 9.

either one will cost more but "You get what you...Ah, you know the saying."

I just got a Cobra for mine. With the subsonic ammo, I thought it was very quiet and a worthy purchase. I'd still like to shoot it side by side with another brand. I am very satisfied with my purchase. One thing I like about YHM is that they actually answer the phone and you can talk to somebody. That was nice.

I have a SIG 226R . I put a 1/2"x28 Jarvis barrel in it . My paperwork just cleared - I picked up my SWR Trident this morning . It is an impressive combination ...

I have an AAC evo-9 on my 226 and love it. I too would like to have had the chance to hear both a evo-9 and trident side by side, but oh well, have the evo and enjoy the hell out of it.

[edit]

I started with an AAC Evolution 9, SIG 226 9mm ss slide 2005 model, SIG factory M13.5 X 1 LH threaded bbl, American Eagle [147gr] ball/FMJ, shooting at an outdoor range and it made my ears ring. Passed it to two other shooters on two different days and both of their ears started to ring after shooting. Didn't try any other ammo. Outdoor range with > 15' hight berms on 3 sides, longer than 30 yards, and about 25 yards wide. I even tried some rounds with wiring pulling gel from lowe's - same ringing.

I ended up selling the Evo 9. That $200.00 transfer tax is a bitch the second time around.

I have a form 4 on a SWR Trident 9 that should arrive next week. I'll try it on the same 226-9 and a Glock 19 as I have an LCD for both; metric M13.5 X 1 LH and english 1/2 X 28, Lone Wolf G19 threaded bbl and SIG factory threaded bbl.

Some have said AE ball is loud. I have some special K to try this time around. I may also try some UMC 147gr as that was suggested also. If it shoots POA/POI with my carry load, Winchester Ranger RA9T 147gr, then I'm keeping it.

1. NFA Item: SWR Trident 9
2. Form Type: Form 4
3. Transferee Type: RLTrust
4. 5-23-08 Form 4 Sent
5. 5-28-08 Check Cashed
6. 6-26-08 Pending Date
7. Approved Date:
8. Form 4 Received:

Well, my options were limited. after looking at the sites you guys suggested I still went with the YHM Cobra. Just couldn't afford the AAC. They all seamed to score around the same decible level. Cobra as a little worse on the first round pop though.

Still working on getting the paper work together. They told me that it's a twelve week wait these days.

I went with the Trident as well. My form 4 went pending 6/19 so getting close

I have had a long time to think about my purchase and I have come to the conclusion, I would have buyers remourse if I bought any other can.

230 gr. 9mm?

At any rate if you were shooting non subsonic or non 147 gr. American Eagle ammunition then I'm not at all surprised your ears were ringing.

If it was subsonic ammunition then I'm at a loss as every Evo I've shot, going back to my own 2003 model, has been extremely quiet. And I believe the current '08 cans are even quieter than mine.

For a point of reference my P226R with the 2003 Evo sounds literally like a nail gun, a really quiet nail gun.

typo corrected - 147gr AE ball . No need to be at a lose - yours worked, mine didn't. I even sent the Evo9, 226-9, SIG factory threaded bbl, a SIG 15 rd magazine full of AE 147gr back to Freddie at AAC and he shot it and said it was ok and sent it back. It's sold now and water under the bridge.

paperwork completed on 07/09/08. Mailed it off now the count down begins(assuming I did everything correctly).

Went to my dealer and shot "my" Cobra today. 1st time with the 226 and I was amazed at how smooth the gun was with the suppressor on. It cycled perfectly and it felt more accuurate than before. I think that I'm going to like this!

I picked up my Trident yesterday, MAN is this thing AWESOME!!! I have been shooting it in my backyard I have about 200 holes in the ground it looks like we have ground hogs. It is so quiet I can shoot it at 11pm and not wake people up. It is about as loud as a paintballgun a little different sounding not as loud more of a crisp thwack! I live in a normal two story neighborhood with nosey neighbors and no one has noticed. It is outside city limits and I do have a huge hill in my backyard that is a excellent backstop.
All shooting was done dry. There is no need to add water to the Trident like the Evo 9 or others.
I sent my papers in 5/6 and was approved 7/3 Trust.

I agree, the Trident is awesome.
The other advantage of the Trident is the ability to exchange thread adaptors for it and, it is full auto rated. I use my Trident on my P226 and on my FA Uzi.

F2 the Evolution 9 wetted is quieter than a dry Trident so I doubt your ultra sensative bat hearing is going to like that one either. The Special K ammo is downloaded weak to try and get a false sense of quiet. Not full power 9mm ammo in any way.

The Trident 9 seems to be the end user prefered silencer for those who like a larger package.

The Evolution 9 is prefered by the smaller silencer end user market.

Gemtech has a Multi Mount in the Trident size class and a Tundra model in the Evolution 9 size class, but new for 2008 product and few end user reports are out yet.

The Evolution 9 also has changable thread mounts, solid mounts for fixed barrels and 3 lug mounts for MP5 type guns and is also full auto rated. The Trident does have an UZI SMG mount that is not made for the Evolution 9.

Class 3 shooters blow thier load with only one pull of the trigger
