I purchased a tb from bartow for my sig 226 in .40 cal. I wanted to convert it to a 9mm and then suppress it.
Barsto had one on the in stock list and for cheap($150). I bought it and was surpised when it arrived. The barrel was 1" longer than the normal barrel and it was fully threaded(1" of threads). I was not able to find a 1" thread protector so I bought several of the normal sized 1/4" protectors. Well it didn't matter i still mangaled the threads at the tip. I dont know how I did it but the protectors cant be screwed on. Can I have a gun smith cut the tb barrel back by 1/2"-3/4" to remove the damaged threads? Or will it be cheaper to order a new barrel from Barstow? Anyone know a real gunsmith here in Utah? Can't find one in the phone book. Send it over to Tornado Tech in Portland for a cut and crown. One inch of thread? Thats way too much. Standard 1/2x28 thread is .400" long. Are you sure its 1/2"X28 or did you try and screw 1/2X28 on a 1/2X32 or 36 threaded barrel and thats how it got buggered up?

No, for sure it's 1/2x28 tpi. We screwed the suppressor on it and it fit fine. It looks like i hit it with something. The thread pattern is flatened out ever so slightly on the top of the barrel.

It's not an interrupted thread is it? Though, I seriously doubt they'd make one on a barrel. ___________________________________________________________ So the Libyan Fable is told That once an eagle, stricken with a dart, Said, when he saw the fashion of the shaft, "With our own feathers, not by others’ hands, Are we now smitten." -Anton Myrer, "Once an Eagle" |

sounds like you just need to run a chaser die over it other than the fact its too long. 1/2x28 dies are cheap.
