And someone on the last bench had an AR10 type rifle (308) with a YHM suppressor on it. I was really intrigued becuase I am thinking of getting a 7.62 suppressor, but I have never heard any suppressors on full size cartridges (7.62 or 5.56). I was truly impressed! It was a little louder than an un-suppressed 22 rifle! I took my ear plug off for a second to listen to the shots.
I had a friend out with me who had never been out shooting any big bore rifles. I had my A2 type AR with me. It was his first time shooting anything like that. He was grinning from ear to ear from both shooting my rifle and listening to the guy with the suppressed AR. I asked the guy to take his suppressor off so we could have a comparison of a suppressed and un-suppressed shot. Huge difference! Anyway, I am sold on getting one now. Tony. |

I would like one myself - maybe next income tax return!
Did you notice how much the recoil was reduced? Another added bonus. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A Bill of Rights is what the people are entitled to against every government, and what no just government should refuse, or rest on inference. - Thomas Jefferson |

308's a good caliber to suppress, I've been very impressed with my Gemtech HVT.
It's certainly not Hollywood quiet but when it reduces the blast of a 8.5" .308 to 22 minimag....was worth the price of admission by a mile. |

when using a suppressor, do you have to use certian type of ammo?

No real requirement there, except for some suppressor/weapon combos (i.e. Gemtech lists it as unadvisable to shoot the heavy 168+ gr stuff through a HK/HVT combo due to rifling and baffle strikes) and individual preference. |

You can use any ammo with a quality suppressor, but to get the most "suppression" you need to use subsonic rounds. With 9mm this is easy, just move to a heavier/slower bullet (147gr or 158gr) from a standard 115gr. With a .223 AR, this is alot trickier because even the heavier .223 rounds are still supersonic. Truely subsonic .223 rounds will most likely NOT cycle the rifle. If you hand-load, you may be able to find a compromise that cycles and suppresses well. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A Bill of Rights is what the people are entitled to against every government, and what no just government should refuse, or rest on inference. - Thomas Jefferson |

look at the AAC Cyclone or Cyclone-K (the shorter version) if you're looking for .308 suppressors, as well as everything else on the market. do your homework, it pays in the long run.
