I know it has been discussed but I already searched and was not able to find the info so here goes.....I am not looking to start any kind of war or get flamed I am just wondering what would happen if someone shot 22lr through a 223 supressor? Would it be effective at silencing the 22lr? Would it destroy or mess up the supressor?

The reason I am asking is because for many applications the thread patterns will be the same and the bullet size is very similar.

22 is dirty, if you can't disassemble the can to clean it I wouldn't recommend doing it. Otherwise it will be just fine.

It's not suggested because 22LR is not fully jacketed so it will lead up your more expensive 223 can.

I first started with TAC-16 by Tactical Innovations using same can with 22LR and 223.
It's the only can I found that was 223 rated that can be taken apart to clean - you shot your 223 rounds first then 22LR then cleaned - don't shoot more than a brick of 22LR or it become very hard to disassemble for cleaning.

Also coat inside of can and baffles with Neverseaze - help in getting the lead off.
Air compressor and bead blaster don't hurt either ;^)

Besides the cons mentioned, it would be heavy as hell compared to a dedicated .22 suppressor.

This is true and didn't take long for me to order a dedicated 22LR can - ordered one that can be taken apart to clean

Why go through all of the trouble to suppress something, and then do it half-assed because you wanna save the money to not buy a .22 can?

Buy a quality one of each.

It will work but as stated, it will build up lead in your nice 5.56 can. There is a solution you can use on stainless and titanium cans mentioned on Silencer Talk (something like 50% hydrogen Peroxide and 50% Vinegar) that supposedly will work over time but becomes toxic and has to be disposed of properly. I have not tried this and don't think I will be shooting .22 out of my 5.56 can.

TAC65 .22LR SUPPRESSOR
Excellent Suppression, Easy To Clean
[suptac65m#] $249.99

Your going to spend the $200 for any suppressor so I guess you could say $450.

I have an AAC M4-2000 (not the most current variation, don't know what number it is exactly).

When I first bought it I asked AAC about shooting it out of a .223 barrel using the Ceiner conversions. They said it was ok to do.

They have since changed that recommendation to a negative.

You can physically do it, but as others have said, it will fill up the can faster.

When I did shoot .22 out of my .223 can it was pretty quiet.

However, due to the fill-up considerations and the fact that I have a GSG5, I sold the Ceiner kit and no longer shoot .22 out of my M4.

If you find yourself shooting a lot of .22 I'd recommend just getting a .22 can. You can disassemble some of them (like the tac65) and get the lead out, if you want to expose yourself to it.

THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. PRODUCES LEAD ACETATE, A LEVEL 3 HEALTH HAZARD. DO NOT DO THIS.

I have an old AAC Optima 5.56 can than can be fully taken apart for cleaning, I have more fun using it on my 10/22 than I do on my AR lol...its very quiet, and I use only CCI Standard Velocity in it, which is recommended by several Suppressor makers as being a minimal fouler. Have had absolutely zero problems from using it, and will continue to do so for years to come. (I've owned multiple suppressors since 1983...back when some even had rubber wipes still) My father still even has a M11/9 suppressor that had the insides completely redone by Dr.Phillip Dater before he had anything to do with Gemtech(back in the Friendswood ,Texas days)

This rifle with the Tactical solutions Barrel, and Optima suppressor with group 10 shots at 50 yds using CCI standard Velocity in about the size of a dime.
