Is Orion still tops?

Any other recommendations?

Heck, can I do it myself with a dremel?

A Dremel - I've seen an Electric carbide pen used, as long as it tall and deep enough ATFE doesn't care.

But I would ask the local Class 7 guys who they have do it. You can also check with Trophy or Jewelery shops, they should have the ability to engrave.

I always use Orion, never even consdered the ol Dremel. However, my reputation with the Dremel obviously keeps me from touching anything expensive with it anymore.

I also prefer inside the trigger guard for my SBR engaving, so I doubt I could do that by myself anyway.

Orion

They have done several of my rifles. Thier engraving is perfect. I have the front of my mag wells engraved, and it's uniform and hard to see unless you are looking for it. Yet it is tall and deep enough for ATF regulations.

We just used them for a MDShooters.com group buy. They did a great job on the lowers.

Thanks, yeah I've used them before but it's been a while. Just wondering if there's anyone new out there that has surplanted them. Reason being, Orion isn't going to be open until after Feb 15th, due to remodeling.

If you're just looking for the basic ATF required engraving on an SBR, you might try Ed over at WWW.HDPS.ORG.

I know a certain Type 07 FFL in Tennessee who does engraving for a reasonable price. Hmmm, who would that be?

Call me @ (615) 668-5345, and we'll see what we can do to get you taken care of as quickly and inexpensively as possible.

Thanks guys.
I already have my receiver back from Orion.
But it's good to know that there are some other options. For my next build.

lone wolf distributors did both my SBR and a very special presentation 1911 for me. Great work, great prices, fast turn around.

My experience with Orion was not so pleasant.

At the time, my paperwork was in for SBR's. I sent him my receivers with the understanding that he would call me prior to shipping my lowers back to me so that I could have someone accept them or get them off my porch.

No, he didn't call, email or anything. I come home from a 1 week trip to find 3 lower receives sitting on my porch while I was away.

Irresponsible to say the least.

I called, and in a nutshell, he did'nt give a rats ass.

He will never get my business again.

I'm sorry they didn't call you or require a signature. But I have used Orion many times and trust them with all my stuff...

I have had Orion engrave two Ar receivers for me. His work is excellent and the turn around times are very reasonable. I would not hesitate to send him any items you need to have engraved. I'm confident you will not be disappointed!

The first lower that he did for me, it was GREAT. But when I sent 2 of my lowers to be engraved right after they did their shop renovation, I was NOT satisfied with the quality of the work. The engraving had some metal burrs (if that's how it's called). Even after they blackened the engraving, you can still see some bare metal. Quality was nothing compared to the first lower that he did for me. Ryan emailed with with an explanation which didn't made any sense.

Will I send another lower to Orion for engraving? Maybe, maybe not.

I would recommend Ryan to anyone. He's done a few Title II engravings for me. All have turned out excellent.

In fact, I've got two more I sent his way ~two weeks ago! Cool

Mine was shipped signature required. But both UPS and FedEX drviers sometimes...um...forget the requirement. Heck, I've had FedEx drop an ammo shipment, adult signature required, off on the porch of the house two doors down on one of the busiest streets in downtown Lexington.

They did engraving on a rifle I built for my brothers 40h Birthday:

They do good work, but make sure you completely disassemble the lower:
