I started reading some of the posts about trusts, and using them to acquire class III items and it's very interesting. My question is; this method of acquisition is only applicable to states that allow for class III weapons right? I live in Rhode Island and as far as I know only dealers, manufacturers, and law enforcement can own. Am I still out of luck?

Yes. If you can't legally own a Class III item in your state, a trust isn't going to help you any.

So you just get a temporary resident at a vacation property in another state and use the unit there.

How about filing a Federal lawsuit stating that RI is violating your 2nd Amendment rights, as the 2nd Amendment has no limitations or qualifications on what "arms" are, AND DC vs Heller proves the 2nd Amendment is a individual right, NOT a State right!

Where can I send money to support your legal battle?

I honestly thought about it... probably would consume my life and I would end up losing anyways. But man, this state sucks sometime.

"Temporary" is the wrong thing to say. You must become a resident in the other state. Go to ATF website and go to FAQ's about NFA. It explains it.

Lemmy, move to NH, it is not that far away. My brother lives in Newport and he envies me everytime he comes up here.

You can be a resident of any state you choose....perhaps NH, and live anywhere you want for as long as you want. Change your state of residency NOW!

Can a natural person be a resident in 2 or more states at the same time?

Never mind, find this in the RI law

§ 11-47-8
No person shall have in his or her possession or under his or her control any sawed-off shotgun or sawed-off rifle as defined in § 11-47-2.

§ 11-47-2.
"Sawed-off rifle" means any rifle with overall length of less than twenty-six inches (26") and/or barrel length of less than sixteen inches (16").

Stupid state!

No, not for the purposes of the Gun Control Act anyway. Interstate transfers of anything but rifles and shotguns are prohibited by the Act, so you can't be a resident of one State and acquire a handgun or NFA firearm in another.

Steve.

Only three things are certain: death, taxes and stupid gun laws.
