I just spoke to the one local Class 3 dealer here about getting a suppressor and he mentioned there was a $100 processing fee in addition to the $200 stamp. Is this standard and what is it for?

I had planned on getting the TAC-65, but he carries the Gemtech Outback which was about $100 more than what I was planning on spending on the TAC-65. That puts me at $200 over budget Mad

Any input on the Outback?

$100 processing fee, I would tell him where to shove it, unless he is selling the can to you AT his real cost. Go to another class 3 dealer that wants your business.

Most dealers will only charge you a fee if you are doing a transfer on a can you purchased through some other means.

Thanks. Unfortunately, he is the lone class 3 dealer in this area (that I've found anyway). I may need to take a trip down to the DFW area for a better selection.

If he's ordering it from a company there should be no processing fee. If you are buying it from someone else and then he is just doing the transfer, $25-100 is standard.

He's actually a Gemtech dealer and he said it was for him filling out the paperwork and getting the finger printing docs together???

Sounds like BS to me.

If they are a class III dealer they should be selling the suppressors for either MSRP or what ever their standard mark up is. Most suppressors have atleast 20% mark up room.

The Tac 65 has plenty of room for markup in them. If he's selling them for MSRP he is making plenty of percentage.

There is normally a $50-$150 transfer fee depending on how much the dealer does.
For $50 some will just process the paperwork(this is the normal rate).
For $150 some will do prints and photos in addition to the paperwork.

Wow, I guess I've got it good. My class III does 10% BELOW MSRP and there is no transfer fee. The other guy in town does MSRP and no fee. Both do $100 transfer fees for transfers in if you don't buy it from them. Another guy in Ohio does MSRP with no fee, and $50 for transfers in if you don't buy from them.

I thought that was pretty standard.

MSRP or a little BELOW MSRP with no fee seems pretty standard to me. You shouldn't be paying above MSRP. There should never be a fee on top of that.

$100 Processing fee is definantly BS !!
My dealer Sells @ 5% over his cost and does all the paperwork for me for free, doing the trust and all.He does this for all his customers!! He feels by providing this free service he will get repeat business and other business by word of mouth.Wink

A fee to do your docs is pretty standard from what I've seen, if you don't do them yourself.

I bought a can yesterday and my dealer handed me all the required forms in less than 10 minutes. There is hardly any info required at all on a Form 4. The print cards and citizenship form things you fill out yourself. If I bring the stuff back to them after getting the LEO signoff they will even mail it to the ATF on their own dime.

I agree with others, if it is a transfer then there is a processing fee because they don't make anything on the retail markup. But it sounds like he just wants to sell what he has in stock and he is stocking a very good can.
