I just got off the phone with a very nice lady at the NFA branch of the BATF&E. She gave me the status on my form 4 and also said that due to a dramatic increase in applications they are running behind schedule. Sha said that my Form 4 went pending on June 17th and to expect 4-6 weeks from then.

The new number to check status updates is (304) 616-4500

Well that sucks.

I was just about to fill out the form 1 for another SBR for my new project. I guess I will just have to use one of my other lowers until it is approved.

Yeah, that's too bad. I have an MP5 that I'm about to start the paperwork on. Oh, well. That's just part of the game, sadly.

I'll have to call on mine. Hopefully, I'll get the nice lady, and not the prick I got last time.

My Form 4 and Form 1 went pending on 06/12. Got both of them back 10 days later. So yours may show up earlier than 4-6 weeks. I have been told the same. I guess 4-6 weeks is a standard processing time. But it can be shorter.

When did you mail your forms off compared to when they went pending? I sent off form 4s for two suppressors on 06/06 and they were signed for the morning of 06/09. On my last form 4 it took 46 days door to door and that was sent on the 22nd of Jan.

Dave,

Let me guess personal transfers? I've heard that the second and third personal transfer within a few months of each other go much faster.

So I have to ask, what type of compromising pictures do you have of your examiner?

I have a Form 3 that is at least 6 weeks since it was sent in.

I would like to know that as well... My last one took 4-weeks to go pending after the check was cashed and then 6-weeks to be approved after that. A total of 10-weeks excluding mailing. My personal worst.

My new strategy is to keep sending them forms every month or so. That way it never seems like a wait as one or another will be approved every month or so. Wink

I just sent it in and left it alone. I called at about the 1 month mark and they told me it was pending. I tried to arrange the paperwork so it was organized and paper clipped together.

[LIST]
  • Mailed May 12th
  • Signed for May 13th
  • Check cashed May 15th
  • Went pending June 17th
  • Approved on July 29th
  • Picked up August 26th [list]

I have heard that there are several new examiners. They are assigned by the first initial of the last name or business name of the SELLER.

I just hope I get it soon. My first can was 26 days from mailing to receiving the from.

Name - How assignors are assigned

They are assigned by the first rule that matches, in order from 1 to 3:

    1. If governmental agency, first character of the state that the agency is in
    2. The first letter of the trade name of the TRANSFEROR (i.e. where the transfer is coming from)
    3. First letter of the last name

On one hand the longer wait sucks, but on the other, more Americans are legally acquiring NFA items. I see that as a good thing.

I had a form 4 for a suppressor go pending on August 1st, I received the form 4 on September 11th (now there's karma). They cashed my check on June 25th. I did call at one point and got the "nice lady" on the phone and she was very helpful
