What's your pick for subsonic .300BO?
What's everybody's pick for subsonic .300BO ammo? Either FMJ or HP?

Phone's ringing, Dude.

For what purpose?

For plinking, it's whatever I can find that's cheap.

I have two 20 round mags loaded with Hornady 80892 208gr A-MAX for SD purposes. It seems to work fine putting down deer at close distances. I only use this because it's what work issues.

I'm debating switching to supersonic with the Hornady 110 gr. GMX TAP (80875)

Tiger - I load 208 A-Max and a 217gr coated lead bullet from Leatherhead Bullets. Both are loaded sub-sonic using AA-1680.....Mark

Chowser, I was not aware (I'm usually not) that any agency was issuing 300 BO.

Did your entire dept standardize on it?

thanks

No, we're still a 5.56 agency. I just got the okay to test 300blk since the ammo was on the state list.

So right now, I'm the only one with a suppressed rifle in my patrol car. I take the suppressor home at the end of shift and stick it on at the beginning since it's one of my personal suppressors.

Sorry for my lack of specificity.

Quietest, for home defense. Either FMJ or JHP are fine, but please state your preference and why.

The type of bullet should have no effect on sound levels. Subsonic rounds of roughly the same speed will have roughly the same noise levels.

Unless the FMJ bullet is designed to tumble and fragment, it will likely be the least effective defensive round.

Some JHP bullets do expand and/or tumble at slow speeds, others not so much. Do your research -- meaning documented tests in ballistics gel.

There are some manufacturers who state their heavy 308 bullets expand at subsonic speeds. Hornady's new catalog states this, but I believe there are others who say their bullets expand at slow velocities.
