I live in Missouri and I understand my state allows suppressors with the right permit. Can someone tell me what the steps are in getting one?

In short, you have to buy the suppressor from a class III dealer and then submit a form 4 to the BATFE. You'll need to find out whether or not your local law enforcement official is willing to sign off on the form 4. If he will not, there are a couple of other routes you can go. You can set up a trust, LLC, or corporation.

Here is a good starting point with some information.

See if you have a local Class 3 dealer - they may have what you are looking for in stock - if not, see how much they charge for a transfer, then you buy it online and that dealer ships it to yours. Then you do the Form 4 at your dealer and wait until it is approved.

Costs = Suppressor + $200 (NFA Tax) + transfer fees + shipping fees.

Unless the laws changed recently, the only way to own a silencer in your state is if you are an FFL holder.
Individuals are not allowed to own one. Sorry!

Actually in MO you do need to have an FFL. But the law does not state which FFL, so a Curio and Relic Collector FFL qualifies. So you apply for the C & R FFL which is thirty dollars every three years. Once you get your FFL approved and back in the mail, you can then purchase a suppressor, MG, SBR, SBS, DD, using the appropriate forms. The forms are a Form 1 if you are making and registering the item, or a form 4 if buying an already registered item. Also remember you must maintain the FFL as long as you own the NFA items.

Ah, not to be pedantic, but you need a tax stamp, not a permit. You pay the tax for transferring it from the Class 3 dealer to you (or your LLC, corp, whatever). The stamp is proof that you paid it and lawfully transferred it.

Also your in Missouri so you cannot use a trust to buy the silencer. C&R's cannot be trustees. You'll need a normal Form 4 LEO signoff.

It's a one time treasury tax stamp(200 bux), adhere to BATF Form 4 with your info on it.

Can a Trust hold a regular FFL ? Has anyone heard of a Mo resident getting a supressor via Trust ?

Ive heard of a couple counties where the LEO is a pain to get signed.

Only individuals can hold trusts. FFL's cannot. They are business entities.
