Hi Rella! Can see both sides of this thing. You're a long time member here with a good rep!

IMHO, he did say he'd take it pending pics, so I would have sent him pic to confirm condition of gun, which may have been his intent? Maybe permit 24 hrs to evaluate and get back to you? Of if you were looking to be more "efficient" in distributing pics, might have said something like, member here says he wants it, pending pics (presumably to confirm condition?). Mention 24 hr "approval" period and ask if anyone else wants it, if original doesn't confirm?

Again, IMHO, wasn't enough specificity on details by both, leaving room for resulting misunderstanding. Presume purchaser doesn't know you Rella or your rep, which is why he's thinking the way he does? I'm pretty confident in saying that you'd never intend to do that!

If gun hasn't gone to another buyer, maybe it can be worked out? FYI for anyone out there, wouldn't hurt to ask clarification questions if anything is in doubt!

Then posted the first I'll take it via email or post gets it... the member who said I will take it pending pics is now bend out of shape and feels I screwed him out of "my" pistol because he said I'll take it first.

When I pointed out that he said he would take it with a contingency not a i will take it he proceeded to tell me its my fault because I did not post pics last night instead posted them this morning........

People need to understand that an individual selling an item here has the right to sell that item in a manner that they deem fit. Also that a i'll take it with a contingency does not give you dibs.... IHMO Am I wrong on this?

Rella, you are correct that a private seller can deal however they see fit, but if I posted "I'll Take It Pending Pics" I would follow that up with an e-mail to you and expect that I would have first dibs as soon as I received pics. Hopefully, that would be clarified in the e-mail. For me, if I say that, I intend to buy it unless someone has grossly misrepresented the product for sale. YMMV and it should go without saying that I in no way question your integrity because I know you are a stand up guy.

I agree with what Modie says.

If you post adequate pictures to begin with then this should minimize additional requests.

If someone says that they will "take it" then asks for more pics later then they could actually drag out the transaction and back out later. Isn't it more honest and up front post the pending type offer?

I would add that anyone who wishes to avoid those conditional situations should post sufficient pics and/or make it known that "pending offers" are not sufficient. .02

Guys.

That issue has been laid to rest.

"I'll take it, pending pics" and any similar declarations, hold no sway.

The only acceptable phrase for making a purchase here, is an unconditional "I'll take it." Get your questions answered, and have all your information before you agree to purchase.

Caveat Emptor, folks Caveat Emptor. Buyer beware. It is the responsibility of the buyer to be satisfied with the information presented.

It's "I'll take it" or nothing. That's the way it's going to be here guys, so no further discussion is necessary.

This is a decision of the staff. The people who have WORK to do here in the classifieds.

Again, CAVEAT EMPTOR.

dojo, unless there were some compelling extraordinary circumstances, after agreeing upon price, should not be asking for more money? People can make "honest mistakes": but that would require some explantion? Care to elaborate regarding circumstances?

Dojo.

If a seller raises a price, or changes terms after you have agreed to a purchase, you have the right to refuse the deal.

Sellers should never change the terms once a buyer has agreed to purchase an item.

If this is a problem, contact a staff member.

Sellers may update ads, and terms as needed, until they engage a buyer. The buyer is responding to terms they have posted.

Such questions, are why we do not want people deleting the content of their posts. As both buyer and seller here, keep your emails.

Questions regarding transactions, are best sent directly to staff. Any dispute, should be sent directly to staff without exception.

Your next transaction quote the original ad
This way if it changes you have the original in your post that the seller or even buyer can't change. Just like I've done above. Sorry about the seller he should honor the original price.

Thanks MW22...

to reply the question. Seller had told me that he thinks it worth more.

I dont want to make a big deal out of this. But it just leaves me with an after taste.
But my all time favorite is when a seller tells me that he got an other guy wanting to give more or he rush to sell the gun by saying he got an other guy wanting to buy. Most of the time it just BS.

The rules are very reasonable, and should be easy to abide by.

People who make me mad, are ones who see your ad and say "I have what you are looking for and I am out of state will email you in a week." So you wait the week then no response so you email them and there like I got what you have some place else thanks.

This seems like the best place to post feedback.

I just had a good experience with a member here, named bronco.

The gun was better than described, the price was realistic, he showed up on time, well prepared, and everything went smooth and professional.

May I ask, please, how is the best way to go about doing a WTT here when it's not FTF--how do I make sure that I don't just send my nice gun off never to see it again and no traded gun comes ever for it?

Is there some mechanism or third party to help? Using an FFL holder for the receiving is of course necessary, for interstate transfers, but the FFL holder can't/won't force the receiver to send me the traded gun.

And while it is nice to do local FTF deals, and that avoids the federal paperwork and transfer fees, etc., my local area is just too small to find the item I really want, I need to branch out more nationally, hence consideration for a WTT here.

I'm relatively new here and have done only a couple of small transactions with two or three other members, so I'm sure this goes the other way, too, how can the other half on the trade be sure of someone new like me?

Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

My suggestion would be for both of you to use FFL's and both agree in writing by email or fax (whichever involved FFL's have) that both of you need to acknowledge receipt of guns
by opposite FFL and both guns are accedptable by both of you, so transaction can be completed. In some email or fax form, so origin can be verified.

Hope this helps?

To me its the same as sending $1K Money Order for a purchase of a gun. Sometimes you just have to trust the seller if you want the item. If you don't trust them after talking on the phone and asking other forum members about them then don't make the trade. Weather you send money or a pistol to trade its the same risk IMO
If you ask me any die hard SigForum member is not about to get booted off the Forum by trying to steal a few hundred bucks from you. That being said I'm sure there are some lurkers that would steal a $1 out of your wallet if they could! I always recommend talking on the phone to get a "feel" for the seller or trader if all else fails google their user ID and or Name

Thanks MW22...

I actually hadn't thought about talking on the phone but by email only, so that is a very good idea, and I like the googling of the user ID/Name. Thanks!

The feedback data review from GunBroker and eBay and other sites (suggested by MustangPaPa, although I don't see his posting any longer???), is also a useful idea, as long as you're sure the person you're dealing with is the same as the name being looked at for the feedback data.

JBubba, not sure if "trader/seller" is sigforum member or dealer? If so, likely that if you post about him, you will get feedback. On auction sites, look for lots of positive feedback on seller. gunbroker has best conflict resolution program of any of sites, IMHO.

Would require using a FFL at both ends, but you could each make up a little agreement, which both FFL's would have and neither would release a gun without approval of the other and that could only come from designated phone number of FFL. That should do it and worth small expense. Plus, FFL to FFL can ship by Priority Mail, which you as an individual cannot do! Saving the overnight air charge needed by an individual should cover the FFL transfer fee.

Hope this helps?

Thank you, OrdnanceOutseller. I knew that getting FFL holders involved would cost some money to get them to agree, but I didn't know how to "fund" it or approach it, and your suggestion fits nicely.

Jbubba, just adds a transfer fee, but shipping by mail, rather than UPS or FedEx overnight air, required by individuals will cover the cost. Your FFL at your end and his FFL at his end are "working" for each of you!

Glad I could help! Let us know how it turns out?
