I dunno about the knife laws. But I would be very careful about caring handguns in the car. TX law is pretty good about caring a loaded handgun in the car, HOWEVER, the Houston DA chose a different interpretation of the law and likes to lock people up first and ask questions later. 13 years ago the f#^ker tried to screw me over.

So if caring a handgun in the car keep the ammo / loaded mags in a seperate locked section of the vehicle.

FarvaIsNumberOne,

This is my first assisted opening knife so naturally I am really impressed by it. The outburst has a small removeable rod that is attached at the butt of the handle and runs the length of the handle, the rod puts tension at the base of the blade. It requires very little pressure on the thumb nob and it springs right open.

The best thing about this is i got it for $55 out the door at my local gun store. I think he screwed up on the price Cool

I have 2 SOG Flash II's. It's a good little knife with a nice positive grip; I've utilized mine at work with both my shooting gloves and latex, ne'er had an issue.

It's just as fast as the CRKTs, and in my experience is a little 'snappier', if that makes sense - just a quick thumb movement and it snaps out nicely with a good positive lockup. My on-duty one sees less use that the one I carry off (thankfully), haven't had to sharpen either one in 2 years.

I carry two Kershaw knives. They are great knives, they keep an edge and in two years they have just now gotten to that "smooth" point.

I like the Kershaw knifes. I have a Scallion which is good as a tool, but a little to small if you want it for self defense too. Check out a Kershaw Leek.

I have a Camillus CUDA Dominator. It's a beast of a knife. Too bad Camillus folded a year or two ago, they made great knives.

Anyone seriously considering carrying an AO in Texas has obviously not been paying enough attention to warnings on various forums. This goes back several years; the latest stir, as presented in Blade Magazine, is nothing new.

Short answer: AO is a silly gimmick in the first place, which can draw unwanted attention from police and prosecutors. It may be an example of fine engineering, perfect for collectors, but I think this forum is not really about knife collecting.

As for mention of carrying handguns in the car, and the DA in Houston, please do read the latest version of the Penal Code, which put anti-gun DAs in their place. Please do READ the Penal Code, and follow ALL relevant parts of the law, because you can be arrested if you don't pay attention to exactly how to carry legally in your motor vehicle, without a CHL.

On a practical level, an "illegal" knife will get you into just as much legal trouble as an illegally-carried handgun.

I PROMISE you, you will not be unhappy with a Kershaw Tactical Blur. They can be had for about $42 new on Ebay and I use mine in the same manner as the knife you are looking for. In the year I have owned mine, I have boughten one for my brother, my father, and my brother-in-law all for gifts, and they have been very happy. Who are we kidding, buy a couple and change it up, but this one is a must on the list, the action is amazing.

The latest that I got directly from DPS was: "You will be taken in, your AO knife will be confiscated, you may, or not, be prosecuted". Not crystal clear, but enough fo rme.

The good news is that Kershaw will deactivate the AO part of my knife free based on relating my DPS conversation to them. I just sent it off so have no idea of turnaround.

Final note: The Houston DA (actually Harris County) that was such a PITA is history. Rosenthal got himself in some nasty trouble by destroying e-mails subpoened by a Federal Judge and then had some other unflattering ones (affair with his secretary) aired on local TV. He has resigned and won't run in the upcoming election. It's not clear to me if his disciples are equally harassing without him.

I carry a Flash II and really like it. Quick opening, easy one handed close, and you can lock it open or shut. Carry the smaller Flash I in my dress/pants. Same thing, just shrunk.

No go with the AO knife in Texas. Get a 5.5" or shorter fixed blade, and you're good.

Others have explained about the car/gun thing.

Don't go to San Antonio with a one-handed opening knife. They have a city ordinance against it.

I normally don't buy a serrated blade but I could not resist this one.

I have the blue version with the razor-sharp edge. I love it. The outburst kicks in almost immediately and opens it up "fast." I am also a big fan of their locking mechanism, it is simple but effective. I am not the most graceful girl in the world, so safety is key. I carry it when I am sailing.
