Probably a silly question, but I fiddle with my Benchmade stryker a lot (I've only cut myself twice Wink) and I wonder about wearing out the spring.

The benchmade Springs are quite longlived, but if you feel you could use a replacement, just give them a call, usually they will ship some spare to you...

I'm not an LEO, and am concerned about the ability to ship my Benchmade auto back to them for service, so I bought an extra spring off ebay just in case. Probably overkill, as Benchmade products are very well made, but the knife wouldn't be very useful without a spring.

If you can't prove to Benchmade that you're not a LEO or military person or in a state where autos are legal[not many] - then I don't think they'll comply with the spring request.
Its spelled out on their web site.
There are other places that specialize in auto spring replacement such as :

I got some springs shipped, even to us in germany...

maybe BM made an exeption, cause shipping the hole knive to them and back would have been quite expensive...

Good old Benchmade and Protech and MT protecting us. Get several replacement springs and do it yourself. benchmade springs seem to be very good and long lived especially compared to MT and who knows if it is the knife the spring or the combination. Just tape the blade before attempting blood makes them hard to hold slippery and then sticky. Even the OTFs can be readily fixed. Site mentioned is a good one. PVK.com has springs as well and tools to remove the weird fasteners that Microtech uses. Tony Marfione of MT is into firearms these days i suspect that there won;t be too many more MT new designs and maybe the existant ones will rise in value.

As I understand it, Federal law prohibits the use of the US mail to send switchblades to non-military/LEO. I had thought I might take my chances and send my knife to Benchmade, but as a non-military/LEO, my concern is that they would not send it back.
