I can order another Randall Made Knife in a month. Delivery will be in 2013. Not a problem. I am a patient man. Heck, the #5-6" that I ordered four years ago will be ready next month. Yeah!

Anyway, one thought I have is the #12 Bear Bowie. See: http://www.randallknives.com/catalog.php?action=modeldetail&id=8

I like the Forward Curved Hilt, which is standard. I have that on a couple already, and prefer it over the other three styles of double hilts (standard, straight, and lugged). I would choose Nickel Silver for the hilt and butt material. I also like wrist thongs, and the Single Finger Grip handle. Crap. I am already at four chargeable features, and there is now a limit of five. I may need to go with a carbon steel blade so that I can pick some type of wood for the handle material.

Thoughts?

I could always order a #9.

Ken,
After putting the RC-6 off for continuing sheath problems, I got tired of waiting and picked up the Fallkniven A-1 for HD outdoor use.

Hope Jeff doesn't take so long with the SERE knife too Roll Eyes

I like carbon steel on Randalls. It is more traditional, and I think their carbon steel is better than their stainless. That will save you a feature. I also like brass for the furniture, but I know you favor nickel silver.

The last Randall I got was a Little Bear Bowie, in carbon, brass hilt, brass butt, black and brass spacers, with ironwood. I guess that is three chargeable features. It is a heavy knife with the brass butt. My plan is to have the brass engraved at some time. I have always liked the Bear Bowie, too.

I blame my dad for my apparent weakness when it comes to nice specimens of stag. My wife doesn't get it. That's okay. I don't get why she craves Coach bags, and I am okay with that.

Have you ever considered actual silver for the fittings? It makes it purely a safe-queen, but it is sexy. There was a guy who made the blanks, and you send them to Randall to use when they build the knife, just like they used to do with alternate handle materials. They may not permit it any more, with the new restrictions, though.

Ken - Consider yourself lucky she craves Coach and not Prada, Fendi, or Louis Vuitton.

They really cut into the knife and gun budget :-)

I almost thought that was a Stoddard Special at first. It and the 19 are similar; the Stoddard is basically a slimmed down 19. The Stoddard is a knife I have long wanted. Very nice.

Now that I have the #12 Bear Bowie need satisfied, my dad has been suggesting a #4 6", and I am thinking Nickel Silver furniture, to include the 1/16" Butt Plate, Stag handle, Wrist Thong, and Stainless Steel blade. I am going to search for example of this model in a close configuration...

Thanks, man, for ressurrecting this thread. Seriously. It was good timing.

I did find a Randall #4, and with a great blade grind. I was able to snag one of these, and it'll be done before the end of the year, probably in October:

Only 100 are being made, and they're serial-numbered. Mine will be #34. Even numbers have standard Sambar Stag handles (left), and odd numbers have crowned stag (right). It is a #4-6" with a #6 grind, stainless steel blade, thumb notches, and a single Nickel Silver hilt (squared top).

BTW, Earl, I don't think that Matt Del Fatti appreciates comments such as yours in a forum. I placed my most recent order with Matt at the end of 2006, and my name should come up by the end of this year. Right now, is is not accepting new orders.

Lastly, because the knife shown above didn't cut into my "one knife per household every three months" limit with RMK, and because the three months had elapsed, I ordered another a couple days ago. I opted for a non-catalog knife, specifically the Fireman Special with Nickel Silver hilt, Single Finger Grip handle, Maroon Micarta handle material, Nickel Silver Butt Cap, and two lines of name etching. As long as the world doesn't end at the end of 2012, I should get it the following year. Wink

I was able to find a photo of a Fireman Special configured farly close to what I ordered:

My handle will be Maroon, not black, and will have a Nickel Silver buttcap, sort of like the #19 that I bought a month or so ago (shown earlier in this thread).

Lunde, you have to have the most tasteful knife collection I've ever seen.

Now, that doesn't really say much, 'cause I haven't seen too many collections, but, I think we all agree, they're beautiful knives... oops I said the b word... manly knives... very manly knives with an aesthetic appeal. Big Grin
