Auto knives are illegal to carry in my state, unless you're police, military (under what circumstances I don't know), or rescue. What's the situation in your state, and do you carry an auto ?

. It depends on your state and municipality. It can never cross state lines though.

The knife, obviously... Anyhow I believe the only state that allows you to carry autos is Oregon.

Automatic knives are legal in about 1/2 the 50 US states. Not so much in the other 1/2.

Google automatic knife laws for more info. Be sure to not only check if they can be carried, but if they can be carried concealed or open carry. It does matter in some states.

I have carried a Benchmade Stryker Auto almost every day since my wife purchased it for me in October of 1998. Great knife.

They are legal here in Oregon. Or, they seem to be--they're commonly available at stores. I tried a few and didn't care for them so much. I got a Gerber with 'assist'.

Here's a cool resource for finding out more specifics on knife laws: Knife Laws Online. You can check based on state and read the statutes directly. I used it before I bought my current assisted-open knife.

In KY you can buy them just about anywhere, but can be charged with carrying a concealed weapon if you don't have a CCDW permit. Last time I checked, it was a 25 dollar fine for carrying concealed here in the Commonwealth.

Those laws are absurd - I can get a CCW for a handgun, but I can't carry a spring opened knife......similar to seatbelt laws - I get a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt, but on a motorcycle, no helmet required...

NY is very weird (as always). You can carry an auto while hunting, but at no other time.

Petty misdemeanor in NM, most officers will only charge you with it as an add on to other charges, unless you are flagrantly violating the law. It's one of those laws that just isn't worth the time to enforce, kind of a liberal feel good law.

They are legal to own and carry in WV. Concealed only if you have a CCW.

I am not so sure about that...

Louisiana - R.S. 14:95. Illegal carrying of weapons is...
(1) The intentional concealment of any firearm, or other
instrumentality customarily used or intended for probable
use as a dangerous weapon, on one's person; or
(4) The manufacture, ownership, possession, custody or use
of any switchblade knife, spring knife or other knife or
similar instrument having a blade which may be
automatically unfolded or extended from a handle by the
manipulation of a button, switch, latch or similar
contrivance...

In AZ with a permit, no problem.
Without a permit is less clear. The knife laws out here are vague, but you can buy switchblades over the counter.

That's one nice thing about Arizona's Conceal Weapons Permit. If it's legal to own here, you can legally carry it with our CCW.

Legal to own (as a "collector") in Virginia, but not legal to carry. My Benchmade stays in the tool drawer and is used only around the house.
